Jack scored a 65 on Saturday and a 68 on Sunday to win by 3 shots over many-time Club Champion Bob Zagorsky, Jr. Zagorsky's two-round total was even par 136. Third place went to first round leader Gary Williams, who scored 64-73, for a 137 total. Blue sky with cumulus clouds, moderate winds, and temperature in the low 70’s all combined to make the day memorable. Race chairman Frank Wadas, designed a modified Gold Cup course 6 miles in length. The entire race was exciting because the fleet remained to- gether creating much competi- tion at each mark. Several infrac- tions of therules occurred with resulting penalties rendered. Commodore David Delaney posted the following results: Dr. John Alaimo and Ellen were the first to cross the finish line but were third on corrected time. David Hoffman was first in the Handicap Division on corrected time. Second place was taken by Rep. Kevin and Beth Blaum; third, the Alaimos; fourth place, Drs. Lane Giddings and Fred Shaefer; fifth place went to Joan Williams and M. Nieman, crew; Bob Hall and Barbara Aston were sixth. The Comet section of the race was won by Dr. John Alaimo and Ellen, crew; second place went to Lane Giddings and Fred Shaefer; third place, Joan Williams and M. Nieman, crew. The Committee boat was oper- ated by Sam Alaimo. Race chair- man Wadas was assisted on the boat by John and Chris Ryder, Barry Rosen and Ed Humphreys. The final race of the 1997 sea- son will be held on Sunday, Aug. 31 and will begin at 11 a.m. at the starting line. Tabulation of the season’s re- sults will begin and will be an- nounced at 1 p.m. on Labor Day whereupon trophies will be awarded to the sailors in various categories. Local women sweep regional golf tournament The regional championship of the Northeastern Pennsylvania's Women’s Golf Association (NEPWGA) was recently held at the Wyoming Valley Country Club in Hanover Twp. Fifty nine women golfers from the 11 participating NEPWGA clubs participated in medal play format, with both gross and net prizes awarded.
