Born in Philadelphia, he was the son of the late Anees and Asma Wakid Barakat. He lived in Dallas for the past 34 years. He graduated from the Phila- delphia College of Pharmacy and * Seience. He served in the U.S. Army Infantry’s 69th Division during World War II. He was employed as an engi- neer by RCA Corp. Mountaintop. He was a member of the Ma- sonic Order; Irem Temple; Ameri- can Legion Post 672, Dallas; and Trinity Presbyterian Church, Dal- las. ~ Surviving are his wife, the former Barbara Needles; daugh- ters, Sandra Magley, Camarillo, CA; Cynthia Kreidler, Hunlock Creek; Sara Barakat, Potomac, MD; six grandchildren; and sev- eral nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday in Trinity Presbyterian Church, 105 Irem Road, Dallas. The Revs. Lucinda * Stafford-Lewis, Andrew Pillarella and Anita J. VICTORIA STUART Victoria Stuart, 73, a resident at the Country Manor Personal Care Home, Harveys Lake, died May 14 at the home due to inju- ries sustained during the fire. Born. Nov. 16, 1923, in Inkerman, Jenkins Township, she was the daughter of the late Jo- seph and Anna Butraucklute Dainauskas. She lived at the home for the past 11 years. Surviving is her husband, Mar- tin D. Stuart of Bath, NY. Interment, Kocher Cemertery, Lake Township. LEO CORBETT Leo A. Corbett, 70, of Clearview Avenue, Trucksville, Kingston Township, died May 24, 1997 at his home. Born Nov. 12, 1926, he was the son. of the late leo A. and Gwendolyn Jones Corbett. He graduated from St. Mary's High School, Wilkes-Barre and earned a degree in civil engineer- ing from Penn State University in 1952, He served with the U.S. Navy during World War II and Korean Conflict. Early in his engineering career, he was employed by New York Central Railroad and Glen Alden Coal Co. Later, he was affiliated with Lacy, Atherton, and Davis Inc. and the former Allen, Houck and Rodda, both in Wilkes-Barre. He served as city engineer for Wilkes-Barre City for numerous years. He also served as city manager for Wilkes-Barre follow- ing the Agnes Flood in 1972. In 1975, he taught civil engi- neering at Penn State University, Wilkes-Barre, until his retirement in 1984. He was a member of St. Therese’s Church, Shavertown, Kingston Township; 4th Degree member of the Knights of Colum- bus, Council 8224; American Le- gion Post 395, Kingston; V.F.W. 6227, Parsons; George M. Dallas Masonic Lodge 531; Caldwell Consistory, Bloomsburg; Irem Temple Golf Association and Irem Temple in Wilkes-Barre. He served as a past president of the Dallas Kiwanis Club and Irem Temple Chanters. He also served as a past lieutenant governor of the Kiwanis District in Northeastern, PA; a past secretary of the Back Mountain Baseball for Youth, and currently served on the board of directors of Irem Temple. He was preceded in death by a sister, Ann McGlynn. Surviving are his wife of 46 years, the former Elizabeth Ann Hennessey; daughters, Patricia A. Fox, .Eremont, IN; Susan. J. Corbett, Cumming, GA; sons, James J., Derby, CT; William L. Reading; Brian T., Dallas; 14 grandchildren. Interment will be in Mount Olivet Cemetery, Carverton, Kingston Township. Born in Larksville, she was the daughter of the late Michael and Agnes Rymarovicz Slimak. She lived ‘in Dallas for the past 50 years. She was a member of St. John the Baptist, 'R.O. Church, Edwardsville. She was preceded in death by her husband, Edward F.; broth- ers, Peter, Albert and Michael Slimak; sisters, Mary Walent, Anna Lukachik, and Tekla Havira. Surviving are a sister, Helen Wieczorek, of Shavertown, Kingston Township; several nieces and nephews. Interment, St. John the Bap- tist Cemetery, Dallas. GEORGE PIESHALA George Pieshala, of Firecut Road, Kingston Township, died May 20, 1997, at Wilkes-Barre General Hospital. Born in Swoyersville, he was the son of the late Constantine and Mary Olenik Pieshala. He graduated from Kingston Township High School. He was a member of Holy Trin- ity Church, Swoyersville. He was preceded in death by a brother Andrew. Surviving are sisters, Mary Pieshala, Kingston Township; Anna Pechal, Swoyersville; and Josephine Karczewski, Wilkes- Barre Township; a brother, John, Kingston Township; numerous nieces and nephews. Interment, parish cemetery, Swoyersville. SHIRLEY GRAY Shirley Ellen Gray, 58, of Edwardsville, a former resident of - Dallas, died May 16, 1997 at Wilkes-Barre General Hospital. Born in Kingston, she was the daughter of Arthur and Edna McRoy Gray. She resided in Sweet Valley, Ross Township most of her life. Surviving are daughters, Cathy Davis, Edwardsville; Linda Stahl, Wilkes-Barre, Carol Whiting, White Haven; a son, Willy, Nanticoke; three grandchildren; two brothers and two sisters. Private interment was held at the convenience of the family. DONNA LEHMAN Donna L. Lehman, of Dallas, died May 25, 1997 at her home. She was born in Sunbury, the daugher of Florence (Kline) Strawser of Sunbury and the late Carson B. Strawser. She was an elementary school teacher and taught at West Anwell Elementary School in Lambertsville, NJ; the Ewing Pre- school Nursery School, Trenton, NJ; the Trucksville Nursery School and St. Mary’s School in Wilkes- Barre. She was a member of the Dal- las United Methodist Church, the Sisters’ Circle and the Council of Ministries. She was a volunteer in the DePaul Soup Kitchen in Wilkes-Barre. In addition to her husband, James A., she is survived by a son, Eric R. Lehman of Dallas; daughter, Laurie L. Lehman of Bradley Beach, NJ; brother, Carson B. StrawserdJr., Sunbury’; sisters, Nancy C. Sincavage, 88, of Windsor Drive, Dallas, died May 20, 1997, at her home. Born in Plymouth, she was the daughter of the late Matthew and Catherine Yonushonis Narcum. She was a member of St. Casimir’'s Church, Lyndwood, Hanover Township. She was preceded in death by her husband,’ Joseph 'T. Sincavage; a daughter, Mrs. Dor- othy A. Williams; sisters, Verna and Leona Narcum and Mrs. Mary Butsick; brothers, Martin, Joseph, and George Narcum. Surviving are a son, Joseph T. at home; daughter, Mrs. Lorraine M. Interment, parish cemetery, Muhlenburg. WILLIAM KASSON William E. Kasson, 71, of Noxen, died May 21, 1997, at home. Born in Wyalusing, he was the son of the late Hugh and Violetta Swingle Kasson. He was employed as an oil rig- ger in Texas for many years. He: served in the U.S, Army during the Korean War. He was a member of the Noxen United Methodist Church. He was preceded in death by a sister, Ruth Kasson; and a half- sister, Julia Herman. Surviving are his wife of 19 years, the former, Doris Newell; a daughter, Sheila Sanford, Colo- rado Springs, CO; sisters, Eliza- beth Miller, Sayre; Jean Murphy and Geraldine Kline, both of Noxen; and Dolores Spencer and Eleanor Thigpin, both of Engliside, TX; half-brothers, Marshall Kasson, Lynn; Lawrence Wandall, Herkerimer, NY; Harold Wandall, VA; and Ronald Wandall, Athens; half-sisters, Phyllis, Sayre; and Bonnie, Towanda; a stepson, Alan Siglin, Chinchilla; and two grand- children. GERTRUDE ANKNER Gertrude McGlynn Ankner, for- merly of New Goss Manor, Dallas, died May 15 in California where she resided with her daughter and son-in-law. Born in Wilkes-Barre, - she graduated from St. Ann's Acad- emy and studied voice and piano with Adolph Hansen. She attended the Curtis Insti- tute of Music, Philadelphia, and did considerable concert and ora- torical work. She was past president of both the Mozart Club and the Quota Club and was the first president of the McAuley Guild of College Misericordia. She was preceded in death by her husband, Clarence J. Ankner; a son, Jack. Surviving are daughters, Mrs. Fernando (Jill) Avila, Lake San Marcos, CA; Betty Bianconi, Wilkes-Barre, eight grandchil- dren; 15 great-grandchildren. Traver, 85, Ruggles, Lake Twp., died May 23, 1997 at the Lakeside Nursing Center, Harveys Lake. He was born in Ruggles, and was the son of the late Jacob and Olive Schooley Traver. He resided in Ruggles all of his life. He graduated from Laketown High School, Class of 1928. He was emniployed by Common- wealth Telephone Co. for 26 years, retiring in 1976. He and his wife, the former Hildredth Kocher, celebrated their . 64th wedding anniversary June 27. 1996. He was preceded in death by brothers, James, Wallace, Frank; sisters, Ada Gordon and Bertha Husted; a great grandson, Chris- topher Long.
