Past events have included comedians, ‘mimes, dancers, pianists, and dance teams. Penn State also hosts Great Books at Hayfield, which isan informal book group that meets three to four times per semester to discuss well-known books. Arts at Hayfield, an organization dedicated to promoting the arts, meets on campus throughout the year and presents a one-day festival each summer. +The campus has also become the site of several Back Mountain events. The first Saturday of every June, the Luzerne County Women's Conference is held there. The school sponsors the Triathlon in August and provides continuing education pro- grams for adult students as well as a Summer Youth Program for children. Local businesses and organizations are invited to use the Fortinski Auditorium, a multi-media class- room in the Bell Atlantic Center for Technology. The Friedman Astronomy Dome is open to the public two nights a week for free stargazing. Weather permit- ting, the observatory is open at dusk on Friday and Sunday nights. Also open to the public, the newly built athletics and recreation building was opened in 1991. For a nominal fee, the school offers aerobics classes, use of racquetball courts, and weight rooms.
