The Dallas Post Dallas, PA Wednesday, February 26, 1997 3 ERT Eyesores (continued from page 1) Pointing to a downed tree in the yard, she says, “When the tree came down, it knocked out my power. It's terrible. I hope they do something.” Dwyer’s neighbor, Jodi Patton, is also anxious to see the home demolished. Patton said, “We've had .our house up for sale and hayen’'t been able to sell it be- cause nobody wants to live by that thing. It kills the value of our house.” The dilapidated home on Old Lake Road is just one of the homes the borough is considering for possible demolition. Also on the list is a house on Second Street that was gutted by fire five years ago as well as dilapidated homes on Grove Street, Center Street, and High Street. How many homes the borough will demolish depends also on bids received for the demo- lition, Samson explained. “It de- pends on how bad the houses are. Some come down easy,” she said. Harveys Lake residents con- cerned about the burned home brought a petition to the council meeting signed by 38 other War- den Place residents. Among them was Don Hunter, who has lived next to the house for 15 years. Hunter said, “We have a baby “There’s all kinds of animals in there, woodchucks, rats, anything that anybody wants ~ todrop off.” Don Hunter Second Street girl. The neighbors have a baby girl. They don’t even let them out of the yard. There's all kinds of animals in there, woodchucks, rats, anything that anybody wants to drop off.” Hunter explained that the residents have been trying to get rid of the house since it burned. Charles McCormick, the bor- ough council's solicitor, explained that before the borough can act to demolish any of the homes, a title search will have to be done and permission from the owner will have to be received. McCormick told residents, “Try to bear with us. We've been fairly successfuli in the past.” If the current property owners grant permission to the borough, demolition could begin within two months, council member George Gwilliam said. This abandoned house on Old Lake Rd. is one of many the Borough of Harveys Lake would like to tear down. The borough has applied for a county demolition grant of $15,000.
