She is the Dallas High School Homecoming Queen. Pennsylvania's Homecoming Queen will receive a cash scholarship plus an expense paid trip to compete with queens from the other states for America's Homecoming Queen in August in California. . Students make gingerbread houses This year Ms. Ellen Boyer's German classes at the Dallas Middle School continued an annual tradition of creating gingerbread houses. Every holiday season since 1978 students have baked and decorated their own gingerbread houses. Gingerbread making is a very old German tradition. German bakers began to make this delicacy before sugar was available as a sweetner. This activity helps to make the culture come alive in the classroom. DALLAS MIDDLE SCHOOL NEWS MISS AMESBURY ON LEAVE Miss Norine Amesbury, a 7th grade En- glish teacher, has left the Dal- Sa School on a medical sabbatical. She will be returning to DMS in one year. She has headed the Student Coun- cil for many years, and has orga- nized dances as well. According to principal Anthony Martinelli, “While Miss Amesbury is on sab- batical, we will be looking for a replacement and all activities will be held.” SKI CLUB NEWS Ski Club has had two trips in the past few weeks. The last trip was canceled due to weather con- ditions, but they normally go to Big Boulder Ski Resort every Fri- day. There are 55 members in the Dallas Middle School, but there are more members in the high school. They have gone on two trips, and three people have been injured, which is a school record. The ski club leaves the school every Friday at about 3 p.m. and returns at 11 p.m. GILLIGAN WINS GEOGRAPHY BEE The Geography Bee has been held for the past few weeks and each homeroom picks a represen- tative.
