a“ Ah 7 : ® oy N The Dallas Post Dallas, PA Wednesday, January 8, 1997 % i o middle school girls at Dallas * “In an effort to help Back Moun- tain middle school girls succeed in school, the College Misericor- dia teacher education program is beginning a new project with the Dallas School District called The Dallas Schools Project. , This program, announced dur- ‘ing National Education Week in November, involves Misericordia students working with adolescent girls at Dallas to give them aca- demic assistance and encourage- ment during the vulnerable middle school years. Arrangements for the assistance will be made through the middle school teach- ers and guidance counselors, who will contact Misericordia student volunteers. The volunteers will meet with the girls for one hour a week. Problems that require professional intervention will not be addressed by the Misericordia students. In case of inclement weather, the program will be held on Jan. 22. A variety of financial aid op- tions are available to both tradi- tional-aged and adult students. Penn State campus plans financial aid night Jan. 16 Members of the local Penn Stale campus’ admissions and student aid offices will be on hand to dis- cuss funding sources, including federal and state grants, loans, scholarships, and work-study pro- grams. Information on Wilkes- Barre Campus scholarships will also be available: Help will be provided for completing applica- tion forms for financial aid. Free information session on SAT's ' The Professional Tutoring Center will hold a free parent and student information session on Jan. 19, at 2:30 p.m. The session will be held at the Oblates of St. Joseph in Laflin and will offer valuable information for students about the SAT exam. Students can expect to add up to 50 points to their current PSAT or SAT score by attending the free session. Professional Tutoring Center has been an area leader in preparing students for the SAT since 1986. : Students who have prepared with PTC have averaged gains of over 200 points on the SAT after completing the program with its free refreshers. 6766. !
