Fair Queen entrants sought The Luzerne County Fair is looking for contestants for the 1996 Luzerne County Queen con- test, sponsored in part by Pepsi- ~ Cola, WARM Radio, and Major Performing Arts Centers. . This year's event will be held at the main stage of the County Fair September 7 at 4 p.m., with inter- views with the judges held before- hand. Team of Luzeme County Children and Youth Red Cross blood drive Aug. 26 A Red Cross blood drive will be held at Fellowship Evangelical Church, August 26, 1 p.m. -6 p.m. in honor of Tim Madeira, a member of New Life Community Church in Idetown and a familiar face in the Back Mountain area. Because of a serious illness, Tim has been receiving blood on a regular basis. Blood donors must be at least 17 years of age, weigh 105 pounds and be in good general health. Diabetics can now give blood, _ as long as the sugar level is under control and the dosage of insulin or medication is constant. Dia- betics can begin donating blood two weeks after beginning insulin injections. Cancer patients can give blood only if they have not had chemo- at Fellowship Church therapy or it has been five years from the date of surgery or radia- tion treatment. People who have had myocar- dial infarction can donate blood after six months from the MI, as long as they are not taking any medication except aspirin, are symptom free, and no limits have been placed in physical activity. The same applies for those who have undergone coronary artery bypass, except that the deferral is for one year. People taking antibiotics for acne may donate as long as there is no infection.
