Today, the full- time staff of four and a dozen retired Sisters of Mercy assist nearly 100 students from kinder- garten through high school. Bridget Clark RSM. “We stay with the basics and have had great results.” Once a week, through a grant provided by the Sisters of Mercy, the full-time staff members travel to Mercy Place in South Wilkes- Barre to help students at risk. In addition, they work with the Deutsch Institute to provide adult literacy session for mentally and _ physically challenged persons. The work has attracted help from the civic community. Three years ago, a representative ofl Nabisco Brands Inc. toured Mercy Center and saw the MIED pro- gram in action. As a result, Nabisco Brands agreed to help ~ support a group of economically and academically disadvantaged children who participate in MIED.
