Adamshick pitches, bats Legion to win By LEN KRYESKI Sports Writer DALLAS TOWNSHIP - Mike Adamshick belted a two-run homer to right center in the bot- tom of the sixth inning, giving the Back Mountain American Legion team a 9-8 victory over Hanover Monday night. Their second come- _ from-behind victory in as many games upped the teams record to 3-2. Adamshick backed up a big night at the plate with a key relief performance on the mound. Mike went 3-for-4 with four rbi's, two runs scored and was also the game's winning pitcher. The Back Mountain players displayed great spirit and compo- sure, having to rally twice in the game after Hanover built an early 6-0 lead. Trailing 6-3 in the fifth, 10 men came to the plate as Back Mountain managed to take the lead, one batter at a time. Frank Valvano worked Corey Yanoshak for a bases loaded walk following singles by Aaron Getz, Rich Klick and Adamshick. Valvano fouled off several pitches before driving home the inning's first run. One out later, starting Hanover pitcher Tom Fostock walked home another before Mike Woronko tied the game with a single to center. Valvano would later score on a wild pitch, giving Back Mountain its first lead of the night, 7-6. Stan Ruda opened the visitors’ sixth by slashing a single past the glove of third baseman Getz, caus- ing Back Mountain manager Scott Francis to make his second pitch- ing change of the contest. Klick was pulled in favor of Adamshick. Jay Allen proceeded to lay a perfect bunt down the first base line and reached when Adamshick’s throw to first hit him. Although Ruda eventually got throw out at the plate, Allen proved to be the tying run. Back-to-back infield errors with two outs al- lowed Hanover to score twice and regain the lead. Adamshick showed tremen- dous velocity during his two in- nings of work Monday. Mike pitched to nine men allowing two unearned runs on one hit while walking two batters and fanning one. Klick pitched 3 2/3 innings after relieving Fostock with one down in the second. Hanover touched him for five hits and three runs, only one of which was earned. While the Back Mountain de- fense could have been described as lackluster at various times in the contest, middle infielder Chad Sorber put together a flawless game. Playing both second base and shortstop, Sorber made sev- eral fine plays recording four as- sists and one put out in the pro- cess. With two Hanover runners aboard he ended the game by turning a double play. After field- ing a two-hopper off the bat of Ruda, Chad tagged out Jerry Naperkowski before throwing out the batter. Back Mountain got on the scoreboard with three runs in the third. With one out Getz blooped a single to left and advanced to third after Klick slashed a double to the gap in right center. Adamshick picked up his first two ribbies with a single through the left side of the infield. Valvano scored the third run by reaching on one Hanover error and scoring on another. Klick reached base all four times and scored three runs while Getz registered three hits on the night. Other players seeing action in- cluded Joe Halowich, Justin Jumper and Ed Sichler.
