Born in Wilkes-Barre, he was the son of the late Bernard C. and Florence Rowe Banks Sr., He was a 1949 graduate of Wyoming Seminary. In 1953, he received a bachelor of science de- gree in civil engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Tech- nology. Upon graduation, he enlisted inthe U.S. Air Force and served as a lieutenant. ~ He was the owner and presi- dent of Pocono Downs Racetrack, which he acquired in 1983. Un- der his direction Pocono Downs - has been built into one of the finest harness racing facilities in the country. Pocono Downs also operates off-track wagering facili- ties in both the Lehigh Valley area and in Erie. . He was an avid tennis player and owner of the Wilkes-Barre Indoor Tennis Center, which he converted into Odyssey Fitness Center, which is the largest sports and fitness centers in Northeast- ern Pennsylvania. He was also the owner of the Roller King Skat- ing Center, Kingston. Since 1969, he was the owner and president of the Joseph Banks Construction Co., which was the first to intro- duce pre-engineered buildings to the area. + He was previously associated with the family business, Ameri- can Asphalt, Shavertown, Kingston Township, and the East Falls Sand & Gravel Co. . He was a member of the Fox Hill Country Club, the Valley Swim and Tennis Club and the Hunts- ville Golf Club. For the past five years, he and his wife of 41 years, Virginia. Howley, have sponsored a benefit at Pocono Downs for St. Joseph's Center, Dunmore. They have also been active in sponsoring events for the benefit of other area orga- nizations. * Surviving in addition to his wife, are sons, J. Christopher and J. Gregory, both of Dallas; daugh- ter, Jennifer, Kingston; five grand- children; brothers, John F., Dal- las; Bernard C. Born June 26, 1936, in Wilkes- Barre, he was the son of the late Edward and Gertrude Gallagher Eustice. He was a graduate of Coughlin High School, class of 1955 and King's College and earned his master’s degree from the Scranton University. He was employed as a teacher by the Wilkes-Barre Area School District for 32 years, having taught at E.L. Meyers High School. He was a member of Gate of Heaven Church, Dallas. Surviving ‘are his wife, the former Janice Matty, Shavertown, Kingston Township; children, Melissa and John, at home. Interment, St. Mary's Byzan- tine Cemetery, Dallas. ETHEL STEELE Ethel Steele, 82, of the Mooretown section of Sweet Val- ley, Ross Township, died April 8, 1996 at the Grandview Health Home, Danville, where she was a guest for the past four years. Born in Mifflinville, she was the daughter of the late Clarence and Nellie Hess Blaine. She and her late husband, Ba- sil V. Steele, owned and operated Steele's Restaurant, state Route 118, Mooretown, for 40 years be- fore retiring in 1991. + In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by brothers, Alfred ani Kenneth Blaine; sisters, Edna Major, Laura Davis, Mildred Clemens and Bernice Stout. She resided in the Wilkes-Barre area before moving to Dallas 12 years. She was employed as a wait- ress at various area restaurants. FRANK GLAUSH Frank Glaush Sr., 82, of Eliza- beth Street, Noxen, died April 7, 1996 in Hospice St. John at Geisinger Wyoming Valley Medi- - cal Center, Plains Township. Born on Nov. 20, 1913, in Luzerne, he was the son of the late Peter and Mary Zaher Glaush. He attended Luzerne public schools. He was employed as a coal miner for more than 35 years with _ several coal companies, includ- ing the Hudson Coal Co, at the Loree Colliery in Larksville. was later employed by Nation- wide Tire Co. in Wilkes-Barre. He was a member of Sacred Heart Church in Luzerne. He was preceded in death by his ‘stepson, Russell Price, Jr.; sisters, Mary Ostrum, Catherine Hicks, Lillian ZavatsKy; brothers, John, George and Michael. He and his wife, the former Mary Space were married 52 years.
