Schrlau of Dallas has been appointed Com- - manding Officer of the First Bat- talion 109th Field Artillery, Penn- sylvania Army National Guard, Wilkes-Barre. Major Schrlau is the 50th Com- mander of the 109th Field Artil- lery since it was organized on October 17, 1775 in the Wyoming Valley as the 24th Regiment of the Connecticut Militia. Major Schrlau is a 1971 gradu- ate ‘of Senaca Vocational High School, Buffalo, NY and a 1975 graduate of the United States Mili- tary Academy, West Point, NY, where he was awarded a Bachelor of Science Degree. He has a MSA in Industrial Management from Marywood College, Scranton. His military decorations include the Army Commendation Medal with Oak Leaf Cluster, the Na- tional Defense Service Medal, the Army Service Ribbon, the General Thomas J. Stewart Medal, the Pennsylvania State Service Rib- bon and Major General Thomas R. White Ribbon. He is also a graduate of the Field Artillery Officer Basic and Officer Advanced Courses from the United States Field Artillery School, Fort Sill, OK and the Schrlau to command 109th MAJOR GEORGE SCHR Army's Command and General Staff School. : He served on active military duty from 1975 to 1978 at Fort Richardson, Alaska and from 1979 to 1980 as a Gunnery Instructor atthe United States Field Artillery School. He became an officer of the Pennsylvania Army National Guard in February 1981. Born in Wilkes-Barre, he was the son of the late Howard and Lena Diltz Appleton. He graduated from Kingston Township High School and re- ceived his bachelor's degree in music from Ithaca College. He _ graduated with a master's degree in guidance from Lehigh Univer- sity and has been engaged in doc- toral studies at several colleges. , Before retiring, he was em- ployed as an elementary and jun- ior high school music teacher and band director in Sussex, NJ pub- lic schools. Previously, he was an associate professor at Arkansas State University and taught in schools in Charleston, SC; Can- ton, NY and Kingston, NY. He was a member of the Osterhout Bible Church, Tunkhannock and was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. He was preceded in death by his brother, Robert D. ~ Surviving are his wife, the former Rosemary Graber and two nephews. Interment, Memorial Shrine Park, Carverton, Kingston Town- ship. She resided in Loyalville for the past 20 years and attended the ~ Alderson United Methodist * Church, Harveys Lake. She and her husband, cel- ebrated their 35th wedding anni- versary on Nov. 5. MYRTLE WHITE Myrtle Westfield White, 86, for- merly of Noxen, Ruggles and Sweet ~ Valley, Ross Township, died Mar. LR 5, 1996, at the Bear Creek Health Care Center. Born May 15, 1909 in Noxen, she was the daughter of the late Severn and Margaret Patton Traver. + She resided in Noxen and Ruggles before moving to Sweet Valley in 1970 and was a member of Sweet Valley Community Bible Church. She and her first husband, Pe- ter Westfield, owned and oper- ated Westfield's Garage, Ruggles, for many years. Born Feb. 14, 1917, she was the daughter of the late Thomas and Jennie Bishop Patton. She graduated from the Beau- mont-Noxen School System. She worked with her husband, David MacMillan, on their dairy farm. She also was employed as a seamstress by the Noxen Dress Manufacturing Co. She was a member of the Noxen United Methodist Church, where she taught at its Sunday School. She was also a member of Class- mates, TOPS, the International Ladies’ Garment Workers Union and Buckwheat Hollow Quilting Club. She was preceded in death by her husband; brothers, Roger, Russell, Thomas, Clark, Percy and Clarence; sisters, Rose and Clara. Surviving are her son, Percy MacMillan, Noxen; daughters, Mrs. James (Rita) Wilson, Tuscumbia, Ala.; Mrs. Charles (Joyce) Lewis and Mrs. Michael (Freddi) Fetchko, both of Noxen; 18 grandchildren; 28 great-grand- children; two great-great-grand- children; sisters, Mildred Hopkins, Courtdale; Pauline Kelly, Dallas; Loretta Ayres, Tunkhannock; Eunice Marshall, Stevensville; Jean Siglin, East Lemon; many nieces and nephews. Interment, Orcutt Grove Cem- etery, Noxen. RUSSELL MOSIER SR. Russell Mosier, Sr., 63, of RR 2, Hunlock Creek, Lake Silkworth, Lehman Township, died Mar. 4, 1996, at Mercy Hospital, Wilkes- Barre. BorndJune 20, 1932, in Ashley, he was the son of the late Arthur and Irene Crumley Mosier. He resided in Lake Silkworth for the past 33 years and gradu- ated from Ashley High School, class of 1950. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War and was a mem- ber of the Maple Grove United Methodist Church, Pikes Creek. He was employed as a correc- tional officer by the State Correc- tional Institution at Dallas for 18 years before retiring 13 years ago. He and his wife, the former Faye Keiser, celebrated their 43rd wedding anniversary Jan. 3. He was preceded in death by his brothers Arthur Jr. and Leo Steadle.
