DISTRICT COURT BRIEFS gE MULTIPLE CHARGES FROM CAR CHASE Eric John Slempa, 18, of Pittston waived his right to a pre- liminary hearing Dec. 7 before District Justice James Tupper on ‘misdemeanor charges of fleeing police and reckless endanger- ‘ment, and a traffic citation for ‘running a stop sign. | A related traffic citation for reckless driving was dismissed, ‘according to court records. The charges stemmed from an .incident Nov. 28, in which police ‘observed Slempa turn his car onto Lower Demunds Road, spin its ‘tires and spin sideways. When ' police attempted to pull him over, ‘he drove away at a high rate of ‘speed, running a stop sign at Fern ' Brook Corners and continuing up |East Overbrook Ave., where he lost control of the car, coming to 'rest in the front yard of the Larry ' Dymond residence. : ! Dec. 7 before District Justice James Tupperand are free on $300 bail. e Joseph DeMarco, 32, of Trucksville, was arrested Oct. 26 by Kingston Township officer Walter Davis after he smashed his car in the front yard at 228 Carverton Road and failed field sobriety tests. Police found a silver tinfoil marijuana pipe, a pack of ciga- rette rolling papers and a plastic bag containing marijuana seeds. Blood and urine tests showed his blood alcohol level to be .164 and contained traces of marijuana and prescription pain killers. He was also charged with pos- session of drug paraphernalia. DeMarco was represented by public defender Jonathan Blum. e Linda Newton, 34, of Dallas, was arrested Oct. 23 by Kingston Township officer Robert Parrish after police observed her driving erratically on Route 309. Her blood alcohol level was .152. The state maximum limit is .10. She was represented by attor- ney Jeffrey Cappellini. The burglar, ablack male, gave the female cashier $1 to pay for a bottle of orange juice, then reached across the counter and struggled with her as he took some money from the open cash register. Police describe him as a black male in his early 20's, weighing about 180 lbs. He was wearing a dark blue NFL-type jacket with a light stripe across the front of the chest, dark jeans and dark sneak- ers. Anyone having any informa- tion on the suspect is asked to call investigating officer Doug Higgins or police at 675-5251. Lions set up fund to help Scoutons A fund has been established through the Harveys Lake Lions Club : to help assist the Scouton family who lost their home to a fire on November 22. At the time of the fire the Scouton’s were without fire insurance and lost all they had in the fire.
