Penn State Wilkes-Barre's popular astronomy workshop will be offered again this fall begin- ning September 20. The non- credit course will run four weeks on alternate Wednesdays, from 7 to 9 p.m., and will utilize the 14- inch Celestron telescope in the Friedman Observatory on the campus in Lehman. Enrollment is limited to 16 so that students will have ample opportunity to use the telescopes. No special background is required. DOVE A dream finally realized Members of Jackson Township's recreation board gathered at the recreation park behind the municipal building to check out the beginning of earth moving operations to level four acres for a regulation soccer practice field. The 20-acre site was purchased in 1987 with a federal matching grant. The board expects the practice field to be ready by the spring. Inspecting the site were supervisor Andy Kasko and road foreman Rich Manta on the bulldozer and recreation board members Frank Poplaski, Karen Whipple, Mike Tribendis and Gary Miller. ~ See the stars in Penn State “astronomy workshop phases; and telescopes and other current topics in astronomy. Walter Bennett, former super- intendent of the famous Mount Wilson Observatory in California, will teach the course. He also designed the new observatory at Williams College, installed its 24- inch telesope, and designed and built an automated system for photographing the solar image. Bennett is an alumnus of Penn State Wilkes-Barre Campus and of Marlboro College in Vermont. There is a $55 fee for the course.
