Ace Frehley to play at the Woodlands In the 60's, when young aspir- ing graphic artist Ace Frehley saw The Who'S first New York appear- ance, the course of his life was changed and a musical legend was born. The Spaceman (better known as Ace Frehley) received his first guitar, from his parents for his 13th birthday. The rest is history. Answering a 1973 ad in the Village Voice seeking a lead gui- tarist, Ace Frehley showed up at KISS' seedy rehearsal loft on West 23rd Street in New York City, wearing one red sneaker and one orange sneaker. The last member to join Kiss, Ace assumed the Kabuki visage of a Spaceman. He also designed the infamous Kiss logo. For 10years, Ace the pioneer of the smoke bomb guitar propelled the Kiss sound to new heights. Ace's innovative guitar style has influenced a generation of bands, including Skid Row, Motley Crue, Poison, Anthrax, Pantera and Stone Temple Pilots. Ace Frehley will appear in con- cert at the Woodlands’ Grand Ballroom Jan. 11 at 9 p.m. Tick- ets are $12 in advance and $15 the day of the show.
