At 6'4", Brislin also is the tallest player on the Black Knight roster, with Steltz and Mike Conte next at 6'3" each. Lehman began the exhibition season with a tough 56-50 loss at Abington Heights, a well-regarded Class AAAA school. The game was tight throughout, with free throws deciding the outcome. Waslick scored 17 points to lead the Knights, including three 3-point- ers. Oliver's game-high 19 points against Berwick Saturday was followed by Waslick with 18 and Brislin with 10. Lehman came back from a poor first half to win going away, outscoring the Bull- dogs 41 to 18 in the second half. Bearde said GAR and Meyers are the teams to beat this season. GAR returns nearly its entire starting lineup, while Meyers is led by Dave Januzzi, one of the top scorers in the region. “If we can survive the exhibi- tion season, we should improve with each game,” Bearde said “so that we can be solid when league play starts.” Bearde is assisted by Clarence Ozgo, Jim Spencer and Joe DeDe- saris. The Black Knights will be home Dec. 9 against Nanticoke, Dec. 10 against Shamokin, and Dec. 14 against Pittston. Cheerleaders for the Lake-Lehman Powder Puff football game were, from left, Ebin Wiaters, Kevin Whipple, Brock Raspen, Dave Rogers and top man on the triangle Josh Riaubia. Powder Puff game ends 8-8 The first annual Lake-Lehman Girls’ Powder Puff football game was played November 13. Coached by varsity football play- ers, the Black Team members were senior and freshman girls while the Gold team had girls from the sophomore and the junior class. On a bitter, cold and snowy afternoon the Black and Gold teams battled to a 0-0 tie at half time. In the third quarter, the Black team's Richelle Kovach swept around the leftend fora 10- yard touchdown. Angie Boltz then took a double reverse for the extra point to make the score 8-0 in favor of the Black team. Early in the fourth quarter Kathy Dymond fumbled the snap from center but picked up the loose ball and sprinted 50 yards for a Gold team score. Tara Co- letti ran a power sweep for the two point conversion tying the score 8-8. Ahard fought game ended in an 8-8 tie. Butler honored at Mansfield Dallas High School graduate Matt Butler, a junior baseball player and criminal justice major at Mansfield University, was honored for being a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Scholar-Athlete during a luncheon held November 14, at Manser Hall. Butler a three-year member of the Mountaineers and a starter last season in the outfield was presented a certificate by Mansfield University President Rod Kelchner. Maureen Rikoskie takes Power Points local honors For the first time in several weeks, a new name tops the list of local entries in the Power Points PA football contest. Maureen Rikoskie of Oregon St. in Wilkes- Barre took top local honors with a score of 91 points in the contest’s 14th week. Ironically, the statewide win- ner, Mike Bichko, Jr. of Nanty Glo, was propelled to the top spot when his pick in Monday night's game lost. Because Bichko had the Raiders /Chargers game in his 3-point slot, he lost only three points, while his nearest competi- tors would have gained more had the Chargers won. Go figure. Bichko tallied 112 points to win the $750 prize, while the statewide average was an even 100 points. As a local weekly winner, Rikoskie will receive $25 cash from The Dallas Post, and a free month of HBO from Tele-Media, the co- sponsor of the contest. Should a local entrant win the statewide contest, he or she would receive $750 from Power Points, plus the local prizes. Entries for this week's contest must be deposited by 2 p.m., Fri- day.
