Lake-Lehman roundup FIELD HOCKEY Lehman 1, Coughlin 2 The Knights dropped what may be a crucial game October 19 to Coughlin 2-1. The Knights need at least a tie in either of their last two games to qualify for a playoff . berth. Lehman posted their only goal with a sharp pass from Judy Sichler to Marie Manzoni who drilled it past the keeper for the score. VOLLEYBALL Lehman 2, Wyoming Area 0 The Lady Knights pulled to- gether October 19 to hand Wyo- ming a loss in two straight 15-6, 15-9. Jen Shook, Cara Nygren and Kelly Spenser all contributed three kills. Spenser also shelled out three aces in the victory. BOYS CROSS COUNTRY Chris Long had a strong run for the Knights October 20 finishing third overall at the Wyoming Val- ley Cross Country Championship. Long completed the 3.1 mile course at Kirby Park at 17:39. Allen Scott finished 18that 18:18. The Knights ended the day in sixth place. SOCCER Lehman 0, Wyo. Seminary 5 The Seminary defense proved to be too much for Lehman to handle October 18 as the Knights lost 5-0. The Black Knights struggled to get clear of the Semi- nary defenders and were unable to find the net all afternoon. The loss moves the Knights out of first place and possibly out of playoff hopes for the season. Lehman 2 - WWW § The downhill slide continued for Lehman as they lost their second game of the week to Valley West October 20. The Knights could not recover from three goals given up in the first 12 minutes of play. Charles Snyder sank one ~ goal and assisted another for Lehman. . Abington 3- Lehman 1: Charles Snyder ‘started the scoring at 17:30 in the first quar- ter against Abington Heights October 22. That was the only goal the Knights could secure as they lost 3-1. Lehman ended their season 8-7-1. Misericordia duo top ranked Two College Misericordia volleyball standouts are currently ranked among the Division III national leaders in service aces according the latest statistics released by the NCAA. Tracy Krupa and Erin Loftus, both former Lake-Lehman High School stars are ranked third and sixth in the nation, respectively, while Misericordia is ranked second as a team in the same category. Krupa is averaging 1.44 aces per game while Loftus is close behind with 1.29. Junior football ‘Dallas Mini-Mounts On Sunday, Oct. 23, the Dallas Mini-Mounts A-B-C Teams played their final game at Plymouth, against the Shawnee Indians. The Mini-Mounts C-Team played an outstanding game, final score: Mini Mounts 22, Shawnee Indi- ans 0. Mini-Mounts C-Team's record now stands at 7-1 for the season. Special mentions on offense; touchdowns by Ryan Gryskevicz (2); Jimmy Jordan (1); 2 point conversions made by: Mike Ra- cosky (1) and Ryan Gryskevicz (1). Special mentions on defense: Fumble recoveries, Doug Ellsworth (1); Ryan Bolten (1); Mike Racosky (1). Interceptions: Pike Racosky (2); Ryan Gryskevicz 1). A total of 14 points were scored in the first half of play, finishing up with eight points in the second half. Mini-Mounts C-Team special teams did a wonderful job against the Indians. The Mini-Mounts A and B-Teams played a near per- fect game but could not come up with a win. Good luck to the Mini-Mounts C-Team as they are headed to the playoffs against the Wilkes-Barre Bears. Kingston Township Raiders The Kingston Township Raid- ers C-Team finished their season on a positive note by defeating the Lake-Lehman Junior Knights by a score of 12-6. The Raiders had an imporessive defensive show- ing led by linebackers Bobby Zaruta, Stephen Salavantis and Steven Rosencrans and defensive linemen Marty Murray, Nick Mathewson and Billy Youells. Quarterback Bobby Zaruta con- nected on two touchdown passes to Barbose, while Matt Rondina and Mitch Ruddy combined for a strong rushing game. The offen- sive line once again provided a solid performance with the block- ing of Danny Piccillo, William Siglin, Matt Tucker and center Doug Zaruta. The team ended with a record of 6-2. The B-Team boys never gave up as they fought until the end of the game but couldn't come up with a win. Playing well for the Raiders were Paul Saxon and Jared Swire. Final score was Lake- Lehman 40 - Raiders 0. It was a battle of the defenses as the A-Teams took the field. At halftime the score was 6-6 with Sean Hoskins scoring the only Raiders touchdown. Lake- Lehman scored late in the fourth quarter to enable them to claim the victory. Final score was 12-6. Playing well for the Raiders were Matt Jackson, John James and Mike Regan. The cheerleaders never lost the Raiders beat as they cheered even during the pouring rain. The Kingston Township Raid- ers Junior Football Organization is proud of all our football players and cheerleaders. Many thanks to the parents who volunteered their time to work the chains, food stand, bake sale and countless other “chores” that help make the Raiders a club we all can be proud of. Rychlewski wins 3-way tie in football contest It took a three-way tiebreaker to pick the local winner in the eighth week of the Power Points PA football contest. Robert Rychlewski, Michael Yurchak and Paul Piatkowski, all of Dallas, scored 103 of a possible 120 points. Rychlewski's tiebreak- ing guess of 36 total points in the Eagles-Oilers game Monday night was closest to the actual 27 point total. Brian Lawrence of Nanty Glo was the big winner, with a near- perfect 119 point score. The aver- age of 27 local winners in the state was a whopping 113 points, the highest of the season.
