Stecher and Brislin to play country-bluegrass at Chicory House Oct. 14 Jody Stecher and Kate Brislin, practitioners of the art of old- time country music and bluegrass, will appear in concert at the Chicory House in Wilkes-Barre, October 14 at 8 p.m. The nonprofit, volunteer-operated Chicory House holds its cof- feehouse concerts in the Community Room of Saint Stephen's Episcopal Church, South Franklin Street across from Boscov's, in downtown Wilkes-Barre. Jody Stecher and Kate Brislin capture the heart and soul of * Appalachian and early bluegrass music in duet vocals enhanced by lively and inventive guitar, banjo, mandolin and fiddle. Their repertoire also includes traditional gems, original creations and select works by contemporary songwriters. Brooklyn-born Jody Stecher, is an accomplished interpreter of blues, Cajun, Irish, Scottish, Bahamian and old-time music and a student of Indian classical music. He has played on dozens of albums and has accompanied many great traditional artists on recording and on stage. In the 1970s Kate Brislin organized and has recorded two albums with the all-female string band Any Old Time, and has toured and recorded with the Blue Flame String Band and Laurie Lewis. Her 45 rpm single of What Was I Suposed To Do (which she later reprised with Blue Flame) is a much-sought after collector's item. Stecher and Brislin formed their duo in 1985, and were married less than two years later. They're regulars on the concert and festival circuit, and since 1989 have released several critically acclaimed albums of their music on the Rounder lable. Albums by Jody and Kate will be available at their October 14 Chicory House concert. Admission to the October 14 concert at 8 p.m. will be $7 at the door. There are no advance sales or reserved seats, table and other seating will be on a first-come, first-served basis.
