Burnaford's 100 points were short of the statewide winner, Mark Tygel of State College, who tallied 113 ofa possible 120 points. e average of 26 local winners in the state was 99 points, with a low of 84. i As a local weekly winner, Bur- naford will receive $25 cash from f The Dallas Post, and a free month of HBO from Tele-Media, the co- sponsor of the contest. Back Mountain Thunder U-12 ties East Mountain in travel league ' The 1994 Northeast Travel Soccer League's season began September 12, when the Back Mountain Thunder girls played a U-12 East Mountain team. East Mountain dominated the first half, with multiple shots on goal. Back Mountain goalie Kari Maskalis had an excellent game, with save after save helping the Thunder. Fullbacks Lindsay Boris and Nancy Levinson played good de- fense against East Mountain's offense. Late in the first half, Sara Armand started a drive, leading to a score by Katie Delaney. Stepha- nie Kutza was credited with the assist. East Mountain tied the game in the second half, with a final score of 1-1. Lake-Lehman roundup GOLF Lehman 172 - Nanticoke 180 Jeff Farley hit a 41 to lead Lehman to a victory over Nanti- coke September 27. Farley was followed by Mark Andrusis with a 42; Tom Brown, 44; and Ray Bartosh, 45. Wyo. Sem. 178 - Lehman 196 Lehman suffered their third loss of the season with a defeat to conference powerhouse Wyoming Seminary, October 3 at the Huntsville Golf course. Mark Andrusis completed the par-36 course with a 45. Ray Bartosh shot a 47 and Jeff Brown a 49. Hazleton 170 - Lehman 173 Lehman allowed Hazleton to squeeze past for a victory in golf action on September 28. Mark Andrusis shot a 39 for the Black Knights while Jeff Farley hit a 44 and Dave Caldwell a 45. FIELD HOCKEY Lehman 0 - Wallenpaupack 0 Lehman settled for a scoreless tie on September 30 with Wal- lenpaupack. Lehman goal tender Pam Rish defended the goal for the Knights racking up six saves in the shutout. Lehman 6 - Valley West 0 - The Lady Knights rocked the Spartans October 3 at home de- feating Valley West 6-0. Shelly Kovach started the scoring at 5:03 in the first and followed up with another at 23:42. Tara Dymond and Judy Sichler also blasted two goals apiece for Lehman. VOLLEYBALL Lehman 2 - Meyers 0 The Lehman offensive attack took no prisoners September 27 at Meyers. Cara Stroud andJenny Shook each nailed six kills, while Kim Spencer added five kills and four blocks. Lehman 2 - Hazleton 0 The Lady Knights rolled past Hazleton October 3 with scores of 15-6, 15-13. Kim Spencser domi- nated the court with five kills and three blocks for the Lady Knights. Kelly Spencer added three kills for the victors. SOCCER Lehman 3 - Meyers 0 Keeper Shannon Kelly captured eight saves for Lehman to help post a 3-0 shutout of Meyers, Sept. 27. Jeremy Fleeger scored and assisted for the Knights. Lehman 5 - O'Reilly 1 The Black Knights rallied late in the game with three goals in the fourth period to defeat O'Reilly 5- 1 October 1. Charles Snyder contributed a goal and an assist in the winning effort. Tim Brislin, Jeremy Fleeger, J.J. Kopko and Dave Dulebohn also scored for the Knights. Junior football Raiders B-team triumphs Kingston Township Raiders improved their season record to 4-1 by defeating the Swoyersville Sailors 12-8. Both teams had a 3- 1 record before the game. Touchdowns were scored by Jonathan Barbose and Bobby Zaruta. Playing well for the of- fense were Matt Rondina, Jimmy Larson, and Bobby Zaruta. Block- ing well for the offense were Nick Mathewson and Marty Murray. For the defense, Steve Rosen- crans, Catlin Simmons, Matt Tucker and Jonathan Barbose held the Sailors to just one score. . The C-Team cheerleaders per- formed during halftime to a tune from the “Lion King.” | The B Game was forfeited by Swoyersville. . Final score of the A Game was Swoyersville 14 - Kingston Town- ship 12. Kingston Township out- played the Sailors with yardage, but couldn't get the points on the board, with two KT touchdowns called back on penalties. Playing well for the offense were Mike Regan, John James, Chris Tucker and Todd Bonning. Touch- downs were scored by Matt Jackson and Chris Tucker. Wayne Casterlin, Jesse Sto- larcyk, Matt Jackson and Sean Hoskins were key players for the defense. The Aand B Team cheerleaders joined forces to cheer for the A- Game. Junior Knights win three | All three Jr. Knight football teams turned in victories this week as they traveled to Kingston. , The C Team had a scoreless rst quarter but a strong defense and offensive line aided in the second quarter with Ken Butler scoring the first TD of the game. rian Cornia took the ball in for the extra points for a Lehman 8-0 lead at the half. Kingston scored in the third quarter. Dan King took the ball for a long run in the last quarter to give the C team a 14-6 win. . The B Team looked outsized but proved to be more powerful with a 30-0 shutout. The first quarter ended 0-0. In the second uarter Justin Brink ran for the irst TD and also the extra points. Following a recovered fumble by David Harris, Brink ran for an- other TD with the extra points scored by Joey Shurmaitis. Half score was 16-0. In the third quarter, QB Zachary Ragukas threw a 20-yard TD pass to re- ceiver Matt Gonzales. Chris Teet- sel had the PAT. Fourth quarter action had Galen Waltman running for the last TD of the game for a 30-0 Lehman win. The A Team also shutout King- ston 21-0. After another score- less first quarter, Warren Vogel ran for the first TD and extra points of the game. Second quarter highlights in- cluded a blocked pass by David DeLong and an interception by Jake Rambus Irv Nulton started off the third quarter with a 50 yard TD run and kicked the field goal for a 15-0 lead in the third. Suzanne Fisher added one goal in the victory. Lisa Tomaine continued her stellar performance in the cage, saving eight shots on goal. Dallas 1 - Honesdale 0 Dallas rarely let Honesdale downfield allowing the Lady Hor- nets no shots on goal and no corners in their game played on September 28.
