The Phillies also finished the regular season with a mark of 14-6. ; The Rangers, with manager Tom Evans and assistant coaches Job Faneck and Gerry Wycallis, finished the regular season with a record of 17-2. The Harveys Lake Rirates and the Giants were the only teams to beat the Rangers. The Indians finished their second game with the Rangers in a tie and the game was not concluded. ¢ Seedings for the playoffs were as follows (tiebreakers, including head-to-head competiton and best divisional record, were used for teams with identical records): National League: 1) Phillies, 2) Giants, 3) Dodgers, 4) Reds. American League: 1) Rangers, 2) Tigers, 3) A's, 4) Red Sox. First round playoff games were played last Sunday with second round action taking place on Tuesday.
