Gordon, a retired local busi- nessman, has been a certified lay speaker for eight years and has preached in various churches in the Wilkes-Barre District. Harold, a sophomore at Lake- Lehman High School, has recently completed the advanced lay- speaker's course and is also a certified lay speaker. Both men are members of the Trucksville United Methodist Church and are active in the Sunday School programs. Harold is also a member of the Trucksville United Methodist Youth Fellowship. Trucksville United Methodist Church, celebrating its 150th Anniversary, has a summer sched- ule of one worship service at 9 a.m., June 12 through Septem- ber 4. St. Luke's plans centennial celebration St. Luke's Reformation Lu- theran Church of Noxen has been awarded a $500 grant from Aid Association for Lutherans (AAL) to help the congregation celebrate its 100th anniversary, June 26, 1994. Making the presentation for the AAL was Dave Morris, Represen- tative from the AAL of the Scran- ton /Wilkes-Barre district to Robert Z. Belles, Vice-President of St. Luke's Reformation Church Council. : The money will be used for the anniversary celebration, which will be held on Sunday, June 286, starting with a worship service at 11 a.m. with the Sacrament of Holy Communion and continuing with a buffet luncheon at 1 p.m. at the church parish hall. St. Luke's began services for children in the early 1890's at the home of Mr. and Mrs. George K. Mosser. When this group grew too large to be comfortablay handled in the Mosser living room, a meeting place was prepared in the Tannery. From Sunday School sessions grew the idea of a church. It was arranged to invite ministers and theological students to conduct Lutheran services more or less regularly. This service grew to such an extent that the group decided to call a pastor. The first regularly called pastor was the Rev. H.F.J. Seneker. Pastor Seneker was called to the “Noxen Mission" and on June 10, 1894 preached his first ser- mon to an interested group of Lutherans who met in the Tan- LCCC names Runner to Foundation Directors Board William A. The Foundation is composed of community leaders who volun- teer their time and expertise to foster the growth, progress and general welfare of Luzerne County Community College.
