If you allow people to drink in your home, you can be held responsible for any accidents that may occur after the in- dividual leaves your property. In addition, adults who buy alcohol for persons under the age of 21 - even their own children - will receive a mandatory fine of $1,000 or more. : Lake-Lehman parents are taking a tough stand aginst the use of alcohol and drugs by our young people. With spring parties soon upon us, parents can be put into an uncomfortable situation because their children want to attend or, have parties where alco- hol will be served. The familiar chant that “...everyone does it..." or “no one will come unless their is booze...” is not true. Don’t believe it! Everyone does not drink and certainly most responsible parents to not serve alcohol to minors. National statistics point to the alarming incidences of young people drinking or riding in a car with someone who was drinking. Youngsters report that they see no harm in doing so. We must do everything we can to avoid a heartbreaking situation occurring in our children’s lives. The purpose of this pledge letter is to regain a sense of togeth- erness. This campaign should help create a dialogue among parents, children, and community concerning the issues sur- rounding the use of drugs and alcohol by teens. Together we can give our children the guidance and encouragement they need to make the right decisions. Ifyou will not allow alcohol and drugs at teenage parties, tell the community by signing this pledge and lend the support needed by your friends and neighbors.
