LL contract — (continued from page 1) - The teachers’ negotiating team members are Barbara Wall, David Harris, Gail Keene, Marilyn Glo- gowski and John Pineno, with Pennsylvania State Education Association representative Wal- ter Glogowski acting as chief negotiator. - Lake-Lehman’'s present lowest teacher salary is $25,630, while the highest salary is $53,530 and the average teacher's salary is $44,930, Bowersox said. The dis- trict employs 136 teachers, whose total salary is $6,110,530, he said. 1 2 The Dallas Post Dallas, PA Wednesday, April 6, 1994 Present contract had 8 % average wage increase The present contract between the Lake-Lehman School District and its teachers expires August 31, 1994. It began September 1, 1989 and gave the teachers raises averaging 8.5 percent for each year of the five-year agreement. Annual increases were 9, 8.75, 8.5, 8.25 and 8 percent. That agreement was reached in November, 1989, after several months of low-key negotiations. School (continued from page 1) weather. James Richardson and board president Ellen Nagy voted against the students starting school be- fore Labor Day. - “Ithink that there may be prob- lems with students who have summer jobs and families who have already made vacation plans for that week,” Richardson said. . “Psychologically, the summer doesn’t end for the students until after Labor Day,” Nagy said. “I think that there would be enough extra days with the eight days built into the Easter vacation ' without also starting school be- fore Labor Day.” In personnel matters, the board accepted an order from the Luzerne County Court of Com- mon Pleas that the district must give retirement incentive pay to 11 teachers who retired last year and provide them with health insurance until each teacher becomes eligible for Medicare or reaches 65 years of age. The retirement incentive pay- ments, pro-rated according to each teacher's age and length of service, total $306,000. The Dallas Education Associa- tion had filed a grievance last year because the district, claiming “budgetary constraints,” had re- fused to pay some of the teachers. The district had appealed the arbitrator's decision in the teach- ers’ favor to court in July, 1993. The retired teachers are Ed- ward Augustine, John Baur, Janice Borton, Florence Gauth- ier, Nancy Goeringer, Ann Marie Gries, Marlene Holly, Patricia Kirk, Marilyn O'Connell, Mary Ann Sigworth and Jane Walzak. John George abstained from voting on the resolution because he said that he didn't agree with the court's decision. Dallas Township resident Mary step of the pay scale, retroactive Baker asked the board about the status ofa high school swim team. Wyecallis said that athletic direc- tor Mr. Ciccon is studying the matter and will report to the board. He noted that two boys and a volunteer coach are already train- ing for district swim competition. In personnel matters, the board appointed Paul Callahan as boys’ varsity soccer coach and adjusted the salary of Harry McKeown from a per diem substitute teacher to a long-term substitute at the first Howard 'Duke" Isaac's o 0. 2 S. to October 19, 1998. Transportation committee chairman Joseph Kunec an- nounced that he will begin riding the school buses to “get hands-on knowledge” of the problems faced by the bus drivers. The board announced that the Y May 2 committee-of-the-whole meeting will be at 7 p.m. in the cafeteria of the Westmoreland School. Like last year, this quilt fea- tures symbols for each month - a heart for February, a shamrock for March, an apple (the fruit, not the computer) for September. “It's fun,” said Gabrielle Huh, coloring a design onto a square piece of floral print material. She takes art lessons at Sue Hand's in Dallas. “It's great to help out,” said Julie Howell, carefully tracing Trucksville Dog & Cat Hospital letters onto her square. “It's also fun to stencil and write the let- ters.” “I feel like I'm having a part in the community by helping,” said Samantha Oschman. Last year the Dallas Elemen- tary School quilt raised about $300 at the auction, Stec said.
