Area college students have mentorship studies on break Elizabethtown College students Sue Niezgoda of Dallas and Ray- mond C. Hall Jr. of Harveys Lake spent a week of their January break finding out what the real world of work is all about with the College's EXTERN Program. Niezgoda spent the week of January 10-14 at Bureau of Fa- cility & Construction in Harris- burg, learning what a career in engineering is like, with mentor M. Claire Powers. Niezgoda is a sophomore ma- joring in physics. She is a 1992 SPROG graduate of Lake-Lehman High School and is the daughter of John Niezgoda, Dallas and Helen Skapura, Dallas. Hall spent the week of January 10-14 at DuPont Co. in Wilming- ton, Del., learning what a career in business is like, with mentor Stephen Keiser. Hall is majoring in business administration. He is a 1990 graduate of Lake-Lehman High School and is the son of Raymond C. Hall of Dallas and Alexia Hall of Harveys Lake. Bruni Bayer retires from Misericordia library staff Bruni Bayer of Shavertown, recently retired from the library at - College Misericordia after a 26- year tenure as technical process- ing assistant. She was responsible for proc- essing the library's books and for supervising the library's student assistants. At a retirement party given in her honor, Mrs. Bayer reflected on some of the changes she has seen at Misericordia during her career there. She participated in the library's move to its present location in the Administration Building and saw its volumes increase to its current size of 65,572; she saw comput- ers play an increasingly impor- tant role in the library; and the emergence of new forms of library reference materials such as vid- eos. The College's decision to be- come co-educational, the cam- pus’ new buildings and the in- crease in enrollment are other major changes she has seen. Mrs. Bayer and her husband, Robert Bayer Sr., are looking for- ward to doing some traveling throughout the United States and Europe. Mrs. Bayer said she also hopes to do more reading and spend more time with her chil- dren, Robert Bayer, Jr. and Scott Bayer and her grandchildren Brian and Michael. Trucksville Nursery has openings The Trucksville Nursery School, located in the Trucksville United PSU dance will celebrate National Engineering Week - In honor of National Engineer- ing Week Feb. 21-26, the Wilkes- Barre Campus of Penn State and the PA Society of Professional Engineers, Luzerne Chapter, will sponsor a dinner at the campus in Lehman, Feb. 22. The speaker will be Penn State's College of Engineering Dean, Dr. David N. Wormley, who will speak on “A Look at the Future for Engineering.” There will be a reception in the Center for Technology at 5:30 p.m. and a demonstration of the dis- tance learning classes taught via fiber optic linkages with Towanda High School.
