Showcase Theatre kicks off 30th season The 30th Anniversary Season for Showcase Theatre officially opens this month with the cele- brated imaginative theatre piece, “Love Letters” by A.R. Burney...the first community arena theatre production in northeastern Penn- sylvania. Gala Opening is scheduled for September 10 for Angels, Found- ing Members and Members of Showcase Theatre. Public per- formances are Saturday, Sept. 11, 8 p.m. and Sunday, Sept. 12, 2 p.m. Additional performances are set for Friday and Saturday, Sep- tember 17 and 18, 8 p.m. and Sunday, Sept. 19, 2 p.m. Appearing in “Love Letters” will be two founding members of Showcase Theatre, Jane Tomas- setti, Trucksville and Carl Wag- ner, Dallas. This is the first in a series of perform- ~ ances celebrating the Kingston school’s 150th Anniversary. Sponsored by Wyoming Semi- nary College Preparatory School, Kingston and Wilkes University, Wilkes-Barre, Coro Laboratorio will present a program entitled “Five Centuries of Italian Master- pieces.” It will include music by Gabrielli, Monteverdi, Rossini, Verdi and Bianchi. Based in Pesaro, Coro Labora- torio 87 is directed by Paolo Urbi- nati, conductor of Italy's Rossini Opera Festival and Ravenna Fes- tival. The 30-voice ensemble has won gold medals at Europe’s most prestigious choral competitions in Athens, Toulouse and Tours. The group's U.S. tour includes performances at St. Patrick's Cathedral in New York City as well as in Spain and Lebanon. The September 13 performance is free and open to the public.
