OC O The Dallas Post Dallas, PA Wednesday, September 8, 1993 13 1993 County Fair has something for everyone The Back Mountain will be ablaze with traffic and people from September 8 through the 12th, when the Luzerne County Fair will be in progress. The fair will offi- cially open on Wednesday, Sep- tember 8 at 4 p.m. but for several days before that the arts and crafts entries will be arriving. The fair officially opens at 4 p.-m,., S & S Amusements will open the Mid Way at 6 p.m. with their new gondola Ferris wheel and the official opening ceremonies will startat 6 p.m. Stanley Wojciechow- ski of The Lake Silkworth Lions with the GAR Band will perform the Star Spangled Banner and Ed Kelly, fair president will give the welcoming and opening speech. The newly named Robert James Arts and Crafts Building will offi- cially open to the public for the duration of the fair. At 8 p.m. on main stage the best Elvis imper- sonator on the East Coast will perform for the fair-going public. Thursday the fair will open again at 4 p.m. to the public with S & S Amusements opening at 5 p.m. with special ride-all-the-rides for just $7.00 from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. The Queen competition will commence at 6 p.m. with former Miss Pennsyvlania Gina Majors chairing the event. The competi- tion is co-sponsored by Pepsi-Cola Bottling Co. and the prize, a sav- ings bond for $500 will be given to the newly crowned queen. Country and Western sounds of J.T. Maxwell will be heard at 8 p.m. from the main stage, along with the band, Angelo Bendetti and The Western Corral Dancers will be giving a dance demonstra- tion on the new western and coun- try dances sweeping the nation. Friday at 10 a.m. the 4-H and open class dairy judging will be held at 4 p.m. the gates will again open to the public with S & S Amusements, opening at 5 p.m. Also at 5 p.m. the award winning Lake-Lehman Band will perform for all to enjoy and hear. Another event to be held at 5 p.m. that evening will be The Luzerne County Fair barrel show in the arena. At 6 p.m. will be Livestock dressup show and at 8 p.m. on center stage will be Alison in WonderBand with audience favorites from the 60's to the 90's. Saturday at 8:30 a.m. the horse judging will begin with the horse halter class judging. The goat and sheep judging will be held at 10 a.m. and at 10:30 a.m. the 4-H will present a fun show in the horse arena. At noon the fair again opens to the public and 1 p.m., the midway will open for fun and games for all ages. A familiar fair favorite will be on the agenda at 1 p.m., the horse- shoe pitching tournament, with a $3 fee for entering. Againat5 p.m. the Luzerne County Fair barrel show will perform for one and all to see and enjoy. If you would like to see the fine details of the Martial Arts come join Robinson's Martial Arts dem- onstration “Kick Drugs Out of Your Life". Robinson will demonstrate how the arts can help you stay off or keep away from drugs by learn- ing to concentrate and keep your ‘mind healthy. The demonstration will be from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. on the main stage. Juke Box Saturday Nite will be the entertainment attraction on the main stage starting at 8 p.m. They are considered the ultimate rock and roll review in Northeast- ern Pennsylvania. Sunday will start at 12 noon when the fair opens to the general public. From 12 noon to 3 p.m. the Luzerne County Fair teen and prin- cess events will be held on the main stage. All contestants are asked to be at the grounds by 11:15 a.m. to ready themselves. Gina Major former Miss Pennsyl- vania will again chair the programs for the Luzerne County Fair com- petition. At 1 p.m., S & S Amusements will have all rides for $7.00. You can ride all the rides for the one low price till 5 p.m. The 4-H will present a dog show, judging at 1 p.m. Horseshoe pitch- ing tournaments will again be at 1 p.m. with awards being given to the winner right after the events. Family day games program sponsored by the Pizza Hut will be held between 4 and 5 p.m. All types of games will be held from an old-fashion-tug-of-war to egg toss- ing contest. From 5 p.m. to 6 p.m. Robinson's Martial Arts will per- form again on stage. The entertainment will close Sunday night with Joe Stanky and his Cadets. Stanky is considered one of the premier polka bands in Wyoming Valley and Northeastern Pennsylvania. Arts and crafts can be picked up after 9 p.m. and before 11 p.m. at the building. The arts and crafts and horticulture buildings will close at 8 p.m. Performing three daily shows throughout the fair will be The Lion's Den, Korky the Clown, and the ever popular Granpa Cratchet. Granpa Cratchet and Korky the Clown will also be roaming the grounds and entertaining one and all. The fair will close every night at 11 p.m. except for Sunday when the fair will close for another year at 9 p.m. There will be plenty of free park- ing for all with new lighted parking on the north side of Route 118. There will be handicapped parking for physically challenged people who have a state plaque or license plate. They will be allowed to park at Gate Binbackof the fairgrounds. Many community organizations have signed up for the fair to help raise monies for their different projects they hold throughout the year. Some of the groups attend- ing will be Luzerne County Special Olympics, Back Mountain Kiwa- nis Club, Dallas Kiwanis, Rotary and Lions Club, Dallas Jaycees, Lake Silkworth Lions and Lioness, and the Harveys Lake Lions and the Bishop O'Reilly Booster Club. Special events planned for Sept. 12 Family Day at Fair Joan Wascalus, Chairperson for Family Day program at The Luzerne County Fair has announced that Sunday, Sept. 12 will be Family Day at the Fair this year. Ms. Wascalus said there will be fun for young and old that day especially with the contest that she and her committee have planned. Races will start at 4 p.m. and continue until completed. Ms. Wascalus said that the contests are open to children of all ages and they are asked to be in the contest area approximately 15 minutes before the start of the contests. The contest area will be near the 4-H building on the fair- grounds. Miss Fitch was the 1992 Miss Pennsylvania and competed at last year's Miss America Pageant. She graduated from Dallas High School and Wilkes University, toured performing with the group Re- Creation for several years, and has continued performing both locally and across the state.
