SCHOOL Dallas child development class sets nursery school The Child Development classes at the Dallas Senior High School are developing the projects and activities for the Nursery School to be conducted by them in conjunc- tion with their studies. Parents of children who became three years old before January 1, 1993, or four years old before January 1, 1993, who wish to have their children participate in the project may register the child at the Senior High School office be- tween 9 a.m. and 12 noon on Wednesday, Jan. 6, through Fri- day, Jan. 8. Should school be closed due to inclement weather, the registration will be held on the next school day. Sixteen children from each age group will be accepted on a first come basis. The children and par- ents must be residents of the Dal- las School District. The three year olds will attend, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thurs- day mornings beginning February 9 until March 25. The four year olds will partici- pate Tuesday, Wednesday, Thurs- day and Friday mornings from April 15 through May 21 except April 21 and May 6. The project runs from 10 a.m. until 11:35 a.m. The cal- endar and times for each session will be available at registration time. The above schedule is subject to Penn State to host college aid information An information night on the ins and outs of college financial aid is scheduled for January 6 at 6:30 p.m. on the campus of Penn State Wilkes-Barre in Lehman. Itis open to anyone, no matter where they are going to college. Even for persons who have applied for financial aid in previous years, this information night is important because there are major changes. “There is more to be concerned about in 1993 - not just because of the economy, but because the game plan has been changed by the government. 1992 was the year of re-authorization. What that means to recipients, and prospective recipients of financial aid, is that there are new forms to fill out,” said Nancy Lee Goff, student aid coordinator at Penn State Wilkes- Barre. The good news is that financial aid is open to a bigger pool of applicants. The bad news is that there is more paper work. And deadlines are more important than ever. “One of the key factors effecting eligibility for any aid program is timing,” Ms. Goff said. “Penn State University's deadline for the aid application is February 15, 1993. Pennsylvania State Aid has a deadline of May 15, 1998. For the Federal program (Pell Grant and Stafford Loans), the next deadline is May 1, 1994.” Penn State's coordinator urges parents, and students to obtain as much information as possible to Correction Lisa Lanning, Grade 8, with honors, was omitted from the Lake- Lehman. At the Information Night program, a session will be held on how to complete any of the forms; also, on admissions procedures, scholarship availability, the Penn State deferment plan, college work- study, and the Educational Opportunity Program (EOP). In addition, private sessions will be scheduled for persons who intend to apply to Penn State. Ms. Goffsaid a key change which will make more persons eligible has to do with home value. “With' the Re-Authorization Act comes a financial aid form that has eliminated the home value question. In previous years, the worth of your home was used as an asset.” Home value is just one of the changes. For Pennsylvania residents the process will change for applying.
