The hour long presentation will open with the stirring, “God Bless America” and close with the soul- sounding strains of the Doxology. Featured through the evening will be a men's quartet...A ladies’ chorus...and prayers with a brief meditation by the participating clergy. The offering, either monetary or canned goods, will be given to local food banks to feed the hungry at this time of year of Thanksgiving celebration. All are welcome to remain for refreshments served in the Fellowship Hall by the participating churches. Wilkes University Chorus holiday program Nov. 21 The Wilkes University Chorus and the Wilkes Chamber Singers, + both under the direction of faculty .member Stephen Barton, will perform a program of music from the Middle Ages through the 20th Century on Saturday, Nov. 21. The concert will be held in the First Presbyterian Church, Northampton and Franklin Streets, Wilkes-Barre. Beginning at 8 p.m., .the presentation is free and open ‘to the general public. The Chamber Singers, a group of auditioned singers from the Department of Music, Theatre and Dance, will perform choruses from by American composer Leonard Bernstein. University Chorus, consisting of more than 60 singers from the university community, will begin their program with Ziegeunerleben by Robert Schumann followed by another 19th German selection, Heilig, by Felix Mendelssohn. Next on the progam is “The Shepherd's Chorus” from Amahl and the Night Visitors, a holiday favorite by Menotti. Dr. Barton, conductor of the university choruses, is also music director for the Wyoming Valley Oratorio Society, The Singers’ Guild of Scranton, the Wyoming County Chorus, and St. Peter's Cathedral in Scranton. Area youth are Nesbitt candy stripers Nesbitt Memorial Hospital's popular candy striping program opened its fall session with more than 70 participants. The program, sponsored by Nesbitt Memorial Hospital's Auxiliary, is comprised of girls and boys between the ages of 13 and 17 who volunteer their services to many hospital departments including the hospitality shop, emergency room registration and nursing stations. Marilyn Kennedy is advisor of the program. Nearly New shop new hours The “Nearly-New" Kids Shop, which is a service project of the Trucksville United Methodist Women, will be closed November 28.
