The educators cited in this volume are nominated by their peers. Howard Friedman, Managing Editor of the publication explains that, “The selection ofan individual educator's biography for inclusion in Who's Who in American Education is based on a variety of factors. Foremost is the extent to which an individual is of reference interest. Reference interest is based upon professional accomplishment that has significant impact on education and the enhancement of education as a profession.” This is the second time that Mrs. Nulton has received this honor. The 1993 Dallas Yearbook staff has begun their advertising and patron campaign for this year. Dallas PTO hosts meet the teacher night The Dallas Elementary PTO kicked off the 1992-1993 school year with a Meet The Teacher night in September at the Elementary School. The PTO began to organize as early as July this year, under the Presidency of Kathleen Savage. Additional officers of the PTO are Vice-President Dorie Zinn; Treasurer, Gary Landin; and Secre- tary, Scott Kalicki. Some of the projects scheduled by the PTO for this school year include the Adopt-A-School Program; Santa’s Workshop; Class trips for all grades; Easter Candy Sale and the Walk-A-Thon, which was held in October. Money raised will be used for programs which are slated and for the class trips planned. Parents had an opportunity to meet the teachers at the school in a social atmosphere. Refreshments were prepared by Lori Besecker, Hospitality Chairperson and her many volunteers. On November 19, parents are invited to attend the PTO meeting at 7 p.m. Visits to the classrooms will follow. Lehman band takes 1st place The Lake-Lehman High School Marching Band traveled to Hazleton’s Harman Geist Stadium on November 1 to participate in a Tournament of Bands Competition hosted by the Hazleton Area Cougar Marching Band. The local unit won First Place in Group II with a score of 94.65. They also garnered overall awards for Best Music, Best Marching, and the Best Overall Band. Overall awards include all four by the number of playing members. Group I is up to 35 playing members; Group II, 36 to 55; Groupt III, 56 to 80; Group IV 81 and above playing members. The field show this year is “Polovetsian Dances” from the opera “Prince Igor” by Alexander Borodin. The show's design staff are Marc Sylvester, drill designer; Edward Richards, musical arranger; Todd Marcocci, visual ensemble; Dave Gambal, battery groups in Tournament of Bands percussion; Ed Teleky, pit Competitions. Students create posters for contest Students of the Dallas School District recently participated in a poster contest for the Alcohol Awareness Education program which was jointly sponsored by the Department of Education, the Governor's Drug Policy Council, the Pennsylvania Dept. of Health and the Pennsylvania Liquor Control Board. The first three place winners had their posters forwarded to the capitol for further competition. Prizes ranged from $100 savings bonds to gift certificates.
