Business association will meet Nov. 11 The Back Mountain Business Professional Association will hoXY a general membership meeting Wednesday, November 11 at Picl ett's Charge Restaurant will be $6.00, but will be no charge to anyone bringing a new member. Membership in the organization costs $75 per year, with the initial membership good through December 31, 1993. Members who join before December 31, 1992 will receive - a free. listing in .a membership directory that will be published in early 1993, and also may purchase low-cost advertising in the directory. Non-members will not be listed or allowed to advertise in the publication. Association members also are working to organize a coordinated open house in late November. Several committees have been formed toaddress issues important to a wide range of business and professional persons. Among them are retail, restaurants, manufacturing, health care and services. Anyone wishing to join may attend the meeting, or call Bartt Slocum at 675-1167 for more information. Fitness Plus instructors add skills The owner and five instructors from Fitness Plus in Dallas recently attended a fitness workshop in Bloomsburg. The program featured Robert Ottis, a two-time national aerobic finalist. He is the creator of the popular program “Sport Moves” and also is the founder of “Real Men Do Aerobics.” The workshop dealt with integrating Sport Moves with stepping techniques and challenging resistive moves. The instructors learned how toincrease the intensity of their step classes through athletic patterns while adding components of cross training. Each instructor received a CEC certificate Toys-for-Tots campaign begins Oct. 30 Town & Country Furniture Galleries, in downtown Wilkes- Barre, has launched its “Toys-for- Tots” campaijgn, in cooperation with the United States Marine Corps Reserve, which sponsors the project. For the convenience of custom- ers and participants, store hours on Friday, Oct. 30, will be ex- tended. An “authentic psychic” will be on hand Friday evening from 6 to 9 p.m. and on Saturday, Oct. 31, from noon to 5 p.m., for “crystal ball readings.” In cooperation with the Toys-for-Tots campaign, the “fee” for a private reading is a toy or a contribution to the campaign. The public is invited to participate. All contributions are welcome, no purchased required. Donated toys will be distributed by Marine Corps Volunteers. Jaasu Ballet at Penn State campus Nov. 4 Penn State Wilkes-Barre's Cul- tural and Performing Arts Series, in collaboration with Lake-Lehman High School will present Jaasu Ballet, a program of ‘dance and music of the Black African tradi- tion, on Wednesday, Nov. 4 at 8 p.m. at the Lake-Lehman High School auditorium. The Jaasu Ballet Traditional i cultural significance of these dances, bringing the audience an in depth view of social and ritual- istic customs of the various cul- tures within West Africa. African Dance Ensemble, founded in 1985, is an organization whose goals are to preserve African cul- ture through dance, music and masquerade. The focus ison such countries as Senegal, Gambia, Ghana and Mali on the west coast of Africa.
