On May 29, the students in Mrs. Q Nulton's class at the Dallas ®lementary School celebrated Young Authors’ Day. Each of the third grade students sat in the @:thor’s chair and read the pieces Wat they had written to the second grade students in Mrs. Bunney’s class. At the conclusion of the presentation of work, each third grade student presented a copy of the anthology to a second grade student. The second and third grade students were honored at a tea given by the third grade par- ents. Mrs. Heffner was chairper- son of the tea and aided by Mrs. Adams, Mrs. Edwards, Mrs. Muss- man, Mrs. Yurkon, Mrs. Appel, Mrs. Barna, Mrs. Hannigan and rs. Dwinchick. P Young Authors’ Day came as a culmination of several months of instruction in process writing. The students’ selections were bound into an anthology called, Plants, Animals, Teddy Bears and Us. The Plant and Animal selections were froma “Writing to Learn” project in science. The students read about animals and their habitats in sci- ence class and then selected the plants and animals which they would write about. The Teddy Bears and US selections resulted from a take-home project. The children took turns taking the classroom stuffed animals home for the week- end and then each child wrote about the animals’ adventures. Mrs. Nulton is a teacher/con- sultant with the Northeastern Pennsylvania Writing Project. Line designs are geo- metric patterns formed by the use of straight line segments to produce the illusion of a curve. The two dimensional projects were done on parchment paper and then framed.
