KellyJanosky, another sophomore, has never played basketball be- fore. “Kelly far exceeds my expec- tations,” commented Karuza. “She is now one of our starters and has hit double figures in some games. She's one of our best athletes.” Janosky was instrumental in keeping Dallas in the Lehman game with a three-point bucket early in the third quarter. “All of the kids who played gave us a good game,” Karuza continued. “Wendy Cave had a good game and Alyssa Rosen- tel really surprised us.” Rosentel had played relentlessly through- out the entire game. “Missy Pom- rinke was another key player. They (referees) let us play and there was bumping going on, but Missy stayed right in there with a lot of effort,” her coach applauded. A happy Karuza also applauded the winners. “Joe Martini played man-to-man defense and his kids played it well.” Karuza referred to the Lehman players getting into good position to stop the fast break- ing Cave. “We also had some luck and the fact that Dyan Dymond was not in the game certainly was a key factor,” Karuza reflected. Dyan is Lehman's point guard who was unavailable due to illness. For Dallas this year, winning isn't everything, but experience and improvement is. For most of the players there is a next year and even a next year after that. How- ever, for three starting seniors at Lake-Lehman, there is no tomor- row. Dallas will play West Side Tech on Thursday, Feb. 13, at home.
