A hug from Dad helps student make it through BY JENNIFER JUDGE Student Correspondent On any given day, I attend high school, take a college course, and go to work. Somewhere in be- tween, I try to balance my waning social life and find time to spend with my family. Not that I don’t enjoy all these activities, but by Saturday, I am left exhausted. As a young adult, I am often times asked to bear the burden of many projects at once. I spend my days developing my mind—writing papers, taking notes, and trying to perform well. I rush off to my part- time job after school. [attempt to maintain valuable friendships and experience meaningful relation- ships. I am faced with an over- loaded schedule, and I must learn to balance everything. Suddenly family fades into the background. As a senior in high school I find it's time to make decisions that will affect my entire life. Will I go to college? Where? How will I possi- bly pay for it? Where will I find a job? I rush around looking for these answers. | fill out college applica- tions, job applications, applica- tions for financial aid, and schol- arship applications. I face rejec- tion and celebrate my accomplish- ments. Merely a teenager inside, | have been ushered into an adult world. I'm not sure I'm completely ready for it. This evening I had a realization. After the routine lecture to remem- ber to shut off the lights, my father stopped me to give me a hug.
