Robb Henderson, pastor of “‘the Carverton United Methodist Church, where the association has odbeen holding its meetings. »}t “Running for supervisor doesn't just entail the garbage issue,” said »\Manganiello. “Now you have people scranning to take over the govern- ment. You have to look at all fac- cts of the system.” - », Manganiello, a self-employed housing contractor, is a native of West Pittston who has lived in aston Township since 1989. i from Wyoming Area "High School and has attended Luzerne County Community Col- lege. : Tucker said that the contro- versy over the Dallas Area Munici- pal Authority's exclusive contract for collecting garbage is his main concern. But he also has other concerns - particularly the in- creased traffic that is expected in the area after the final leg of the Cross Valley Expressway is com- pleted. | “We will need at least two more traffic lights to slow this extra traffic,” said Tucker. He also feels that police officers should receive better salaries because of the haz- ards inherent to the profession. Tucker, a carpenter who builds forms for a firm which constructs bridges, moved to the area from California in 1969. He was presi- dent of the Trucksville Volunteer Fire Company last year, and is presently a member of the Shaver- town Volunteer Fire Company. He has also been a coach for Kingston Township mini-football for 10 years. David Hontz Sr., 63, of Dallas Township, announced that he would run as a write-in candidate in Dallas Township on September / 17. Hontz served 28 years in the Army and Army Reserves and is a retired operating engineer. He is also past commander of the Ameri- can Legion, Post 672. The Taxpayers Association is planning a “meet the candidate night,” though a time and place has not been set yet. The association has produced a questionaire and will canvas Dal- las, Kingston, and Dallas town- ships with it, asking residents to return it by mail. The purpose of the questionnaire, which generally asks if residents are pleased with the present program, is to provide the Taxpayers Association with statistics to present to municipal officials. It also asks if residents would approve of a class action lawsuit initiated by the associa- tion. “We went to the municipalities and to DAMA and we now know that they can’t get rid of the con- tract supposedly,” said Jackie Zukowsky, secretary of the asso- ciation. -In response, the association is sending municipal officials a letter with suggestions so they will have time to consider them before the October 23 meeting of the commit- tee formed by DAMA to investigate complaints about the program. The suggestions include having a sticker program under which DAMA Suit . {continued from page 1) ‘Kingston Township, will not be representing the township in any matters regarding the controversy ~.over DAMA's garbage contract. . 1 feel very strongly about this, there was never any conflict of interest,” said Jones. “I just de- cided it was ridiculous to keep up the perception of being on both sides. I believe the entire idea was generated by the private haulers to impair my effectiveness in the matter.” Attorney Robert Opel Il has been retained to represent Kingston Township in matters relating to the DAMA garbage contract. Jones will remain as Kingston Township's solicitor in other mat- ters however. “The township is quite confi- dent of his abilities to carry out his duties,” said Kingston Township manager Jeff Box.
