Save Time Trouble « Money with a subscription to The Dallas Post Area educators chosen for writing institute Dallas area residents Ellen Campbell, a teacher at Lake- Lehman Senior High School, and Gert Pryor, a teacher at Tunkhan- nock Senior High School, were invited to participate as Fellows in the Northeastern Pennsylvania Writing Project Summer Institute, hosted by Wilkes University June 24 through July 12. The annual three-week course focuses upon current research and literature in an effort to enhance the teaching of English composi- tion. Summer Fellows are drawn from all levels of instruction - elementary school, junior and senior high school, college and university - and from fields other than English. Formed locally over three years ago by the Northeastern Pennsyl- vania Writers Council, the Project is part of a nationwide network Girl Scout Troop 712 tours United Penn Bank held at over 165 sites. Although federal funding is anticipated, the Institute currently operates on a 1988 grant from the Bay Area Writing Project, and subsequent supplemental grants from the Pennsylvania Department of Edu- cation. A follow-up celebration is planned for mid-August for the distribution of an anthology, the presentation of position papers, and the discussion of consulting plans. United Penn Bank’s Dallas Office was the scene, recently, of a tour of the facility by Girl Scout Troop #712. The group of 9 to 12 year olds is working on the Business-Wise Badge and during the tour found out the role banks play in conducting a business; how checking and savings accounts are used, and a discussion was held on loans and interest paid. Tour of the bank was conducted by Karen Shuster, Banking Officer; Paul Nicholson, Assistant Vice President; and David Payne, Assistant Vice Presider Pictured above are members of the Girl Scout troop with the troop’s leaders and members of the United Penn Bank Dallas Office staff.
