Tammy's Bridal opens in Shavertown By RICH JOHNSON , Staff Writer When Tammy's Bridal and Veil Works opened recently in Shaver- ‘town it meant a new business for the Back Mountain, as the estab- lished boutique moved here from Wyoming. : The shop opened June 1 at its new location at 63 Memorial High- way. So far things are getting settled and the owner is optimis- tic about the new location. “We did pretty well in Wyoming and I'm looking to do even more in the Back Mountain,” said owner Tammy Slater. Slater opened the Wyoming shop two-and-a-half years ago, ‘a when she and her family moved to the Back Mountain she decided to bring the shop with her. .- “I thought it would be good,” said Slater. “There is a need for something like this in the Back Mountain and this will help serve the residents better.” Slater started in the bridal business when she was preparing for, her own wedding. “I was. get- tiga married and couldn’t find the rigait head pieces anywhere,” she said. “So I made my own and OPENS SHOP - Tammy Slater recently opened a bridal and veil shop in Shavertown. The shop.is open every day except Wednesday and Sunday and is located along Memorial Highway near Raves Nursery. The funds were used to purchase a truck, trailer and 1,700 recycling containers. Residents are asked to pick up the recycling containers at the borough's recreation center, lo- cated across from the Lake-Noxen Elementary School. : The borough began handing out the containers on June 20. How- ever, Abod said that many resi- dents have as yet failed to pick one up: ‘ “I can’t stress how important it is for residents to take just a few minutes to get their containers,” he said. “We got the grant from DER and assured them that the money would be used for recycling so we passed an ordinance making it mandatory for all residents to recycle.” Abod said that some residents have mentioned they do not feel they have enough materials to recycle. “Itell them it doesn’t matter,” he said. “If they only put one bottle and one newspaper in the con- tainer that is fine but they must recycle. There is noway around it.” Abod expects response to be a little slow at first but he is confi- dent the program will pick up. “This is a great program and we are ready to begin on July 8,” he said. This week's road repairs The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation, Luzerne County Maintenance Manager, Matthew R. Collura, has announced the following road work schedule for the week of July 1: DRAINAGE REPAIR - Misericor- dia and Prince of Peace Roads in Dallas Twp. MOWING - Various state routes throughout Luzerne County. SURFACE TREATMENT con- tract work will include bituminous paving of Mooretown Road in Lake Twp.; Hartman Road in Hunlock Twp.; Cragle Hill Road in Hunlock, Ross and Union Twps. The following roads will have oil and chips sealcoats applied: Ap- pletree Road in Exeter Twp.; Out- let Road in Lake and Lehman Twps.; Cider Run Road in Franklin Twp. TO: Any resident not complying with the ordinance could run into prob- lems later. “We have passed and ordinance so I can see that down the road a bit if people aren't recy- cling, the garbage man won't pick up the garbage,” he said. Materials to be recycled include cans, glass, plastic, newspapers and cardboard boxes. Many of the recyclables can be placed together in the container provided by the borough. Abod said the details of the program are very easy. Some are: . * Recyclables will be picked up on the same day as the garbage. ¢ All aluminum and tin cans will be accepted but aerosol spray cans, foil and paint cans are prohibited. e Clear, brown and green bottles and jars are acceptable but not plate or window glass, mirrors, dishes, cups, light bulbs, crystal or ceramics. * Bottle and jar plastic contain- ers will be accepted. Motor oil bottles, plastic cups, flowers, pens, toys, plastic bags and “styrofoam” is prohibited. * Newspapers must be dry and should be placed in a brown paper bag or tied with a cotton string. Do not use tape, wire or plastic bags to gather it. Also no magazines or junk mail will be accepted. e Cardboard boxes should be flattened. Pizza boxes, tissue boxes and cereal boxes will not be ac- . cepted. o All bottles, jars, and cans must be rinsed and clean. The labels may stay on but the tops must be discarded. Any resident who hasn't picked up a recycling container can do so at the recreation center from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on weekdays and on Saturday from 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. Residents are asked to bring some identification and will be given a pamphlet explaining the recycling program. Any resident who has questions about the program can contact the borough hall at 639-2113 or Abod at 639-5041. Recycling day July 13 Harveys Lake Borough an- nounces it will hold its annual appliance recycling day on Satur- day, July 13 from 8:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. ' The borough will be accepting all appliances at a cost of $5.00 each. Also scrap metal items and" car batteries will be accepted at no cost. Any elderly or disabled residents can have their appliances picked up by calling the borough office at 639-2113. 7 LN Za SLL. Act 101 does NOT give DAMA a legal right to put the Private. Haulers out of business in the Back Mountain Area. Asaresult DAMA CANNOT penalize you for maintaining the services of your Private Hauler.
