rE % FF 6 The Dallas Post Dallas, PA - Wednesday, June 12, 1991 DALLAS HIGH SCHOOL TINA HITE AND ERIN JOHNSON Tina Hite, Erin Johnson led Dallas student council Senior Tina Hite, who graduated from Dallas Tuesday night, is president of the Student Council. Tina, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Hite of Shavertown, was an active member of the field hockey team, basketball and girls soccer in addition to president of the student council. She plans to attend Wilkes University but is undecided about her major. This does not worry her because she has her ROTARY BOOK SCHOLARSHIP-Seniors Lynn Baluh and first year to make a decision. Erin Johnson, daughter of Richard and Sarah Johnson of Dallas, 1991 graduate is vice president of the Student Council. In addition to the Student Council, Erinwas also an active member of the National Honor Society. She also played girls volleyball while in high school. Erin is planning to attend Albright College and major in psychology or business. Denmon) ~ Jer: Searfoss was class valedictorian, Meagan Wega was salutatorian Jeri Searfoss, daughter of Richard and Gladys Searfoss of Kunkle was valedictorian at the graduation exercises Tuesday night. Jeri, a student in the Dallas District from kindergarten through 12th grade, wasrecipient ofthe Dallas Area Woman's Club Book Scholarship, captain of the Scholarship Bowl on Channel 16, president of the Honor Society, Marching Band captain, layout, copy and caption editor for the yearbook for the last three years. She was also a member of the Dallas High School JETS Team at Penn State Wilkes-Barre Campus, Library Aide and was awarded a scholarship to Penn State University where she plans to major in biology. She also won a science award. Meagan Wega, member of the 1991 Dallas senior class, that graduated Tuesday night, is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Wega of Dallas, both teachers in the Dallas School District. Meagan was Salutatorian in the commencement program held at Dallas and spoke briefly to the parents and friends in the audience. She was also editor of the yearbook, band front captain, chorus member for two years, library aide, member of the JET Team that participated at Penn State Wilkes-Barre Campus. She also was the recipient of the DAR Award, English Award, and the Moreau Scholarship from King's College where she will major in biology pre-med. Class officers LORETTA AND SYLVIA STEVENS Pad % Stevens sisters graduated with class of 1991 Seniors Loretta and Sylvia Stevens graduated from Dallas Tuesday evening. The daughters of Mr. and Mrs. Russell Stevens of Trucksville, they transferred from Bishop Hoban to Dallas when they were in 11th grade. Since entering Dallas High School, Sylvia was in track and Loretta was a member of the chorus. ; “Since we were here for only our last two years, we didn't have time to become involved in too much,” said the sisters.’ Loretta is going to Penn State and major in psychology while Sylvia plans to attend-tcollege and major in Hotel Managment but has not decided which college she will attend. pt Banta brother and sister i graduated together ~~ ¥ Seniors Sheryl andScott Banta are brother and sister, who graduated from Dallas High School Tuesday night. They are son and daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Russell Banta of Trucksville. Both were in band untilsophomoresin high school butdecided to drop out to spend that extra time on their studies. Dallas High Class of 1991 officers Matthew Buss, 1991 Class President, graduated Tuesday night, from Dallas Senior High School. Matt is the son of Nancy Buss with whom heresides in Dallas. He has an older brother Mark, who is attending Wilkes University. While in school Matt was active on the Senior Steering Committee and also o nthe high school football team. He plans to attend the University of Pittsburgh where he will major in health and phys ed. Steve Oliver, class vice president State gold medalist Steve Oliver is not only greatat running but he also made a success of being vice president. Stevewas vice president of the class and also vice president of the National Honor Society. The son of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Oliver, Shavertown, Steve has been a member of the cross-country team throughout high school and won the district championship in his junior and senior year as well as the gold medal in states in his senior year. He was also a member of the track team and won first place in the district for two years and in his senior year won a gold medal in the state track competition. He was also active in student council and Peer Helpers. An excellent academic student, Steve has received an athletic scholarhsip to Penn State University Main Campus where he will participate in cross country and track. He is undecided about his major but will not have to make a final decision until the end of his freshman year. Justin Reich was class secretary Justin Reich, son of Dr. and Mrs. Harry Reich of Dallas, was the 1991 Dallas senior class secretary. He was active in football, tennis, drama and a member of the class steering committee. He plans to attend Penn State Wilkes-Barre and major in environmental science or zoology. Justin has an older brother Jonathan attending University of Pittsburgh and a younger brother Tim, student at the Dallas Middle School. David Lieberman, class treasurer David, the son of Ronald and Kathy Lieberman of Dallas was the Class of 1991 secretary. He was an active participant in school activities. In addition to being class treasurer, he was a member of the cross-country team, the track team, ski club, Student Council Scholarship Bowl for Channel 16, drama and the National Honor Society. He was also a winner of the Hugh O'Brien Award. David received a scholarship to Penn State University Park where he plans to major in pre- med. He also has an older sister who is at American University and a younger brother, a freshman at Dallas. : movies and going out’ with friends. Sheis planning toattend Luzerne County Community College and major inaccounting. Scott enjoys football, swimming, movies, frisbee throwing, modern music; and going out with friends. He plans to attend Luzerne Coufty Community College and ear’a degree as a plumbing and heating technician. 3 . @r hi VIRGINIA MACIEL-MEDINA Parents of Mexican exchange student visit for ceremony Virginia Maciel-Medina, foreign exchange student from Guadalajara, Mexico, has spent thE entire year in the Dallas, High School. Although she graduated from high school in Mexico before coming to Dallas, she graduated from Dallas Tuesday night with the Class of 1991. When Virginia returns home, she will enter college and plans to study tourism and business. She used totake ballet lessons and is htrilled that she was able, to perform in ‘Nutcracker’ and “Swan Lake’ in the theatre while she was here. Pe Virginia said the food in the United States, at least in this area, is much different than at home but she has learned to like fast foods and will miss, then when she returns home to Mexico, which will be June 18. “My parents are coming here for graduation,” said Virginia. “I am happy that they can come and see our graduation program and meet my new friends.” | IR oe ee on
