Women’s conference slated for June 1 The Seventh Annual Luzerne County Women's Conference will be held Saturday, June 1 from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at the Penn State Wilkes-Barre Campus in Lehman. This year’s theme is “We, the Women of the World” and will feattire’ guest speaker Elizabeth gson Gray, environmentalist, ‘®®urist teacher, theologian, au- thor and mother of two children. ' Among the sponsors for this year's conference are all the higher education institutions in the Wyo- ming Valley, labor unions, the Cammission on Economic Oppor- tunity, the League of Women Vot- ers, NAACP, Chamber of Com- merce, Junior League of Wilkes- Barre and the Wyoming Valley Council of Churches, to name just a few. More than 60 workshops are scheduled covering a wide range of topics for all ages. They include “Women Artists: Our Poetry, Writ- ing and Art,” “Building Wealth Without Worry,” “Are Parents Get- ting a Bad Rap,” “Stress Manage- ment Through Body Awareness,” “Safe Dating in the ‘90’s,” and “Women For Guatemala: Daugh- ters of Corn,” plus many more. The conference will begin with registration at 8:00 a.m. The key- note speech by Ms. Dodson Gray will run from 8:45 a.m. to 9:45 a.m. Workshop sessions begin at 10 a.m. and will end at 4:30 p.m. with a closing mixer. Costis $16.00 before May 31, $21.00 on June 1. Children under 18 admitted free of charge and persons over 65 are $10.00 before May 31, $15.00 on “June 1. Names and addresses of individuals who were called to active duty in support of Opera- tion Desert Storm are also re- quested. Commander Hontz stated that individuals who were on active duty or who were called to active duty with Operation Desert Storm will soon become eligible for membership in The American Legion. According to Hontz, it is important that the Legion be aware of who these individuals are and where they can be contacted so that the applications can be sent to them. Citing the many benefits of American Legion membership, Hontz indicated that, since its founding in 1919, the American Legion has worked in support of all veterans , especially the dis- abled and the widows and chil- dren of those not returning.
