Perpetual volleyball powerhouse Lake-Lehman has the makings of an outstanding team again this Lake-Lehman volleyball coach John Baranow- ski has a strong core group of players returning from last season with nine lettermen coming back, “We have good potential,” said Baranowski. “We have people with individual skills and if we get the right combination we will be competitive.” Returning lettermen from last season are Mike Doerfler, Ben Haughney, Brian Maruca, Chris Tawes, and John Turner, seniors; Paul Klemunes and Dave Knapp, juniors; and Brian Kelly and Rob The Knights have won 27 straight league matches since being defeated by Tunkhannock on April 11, 1989. The Knights Tournament will be April 4 and April 5 at the district's senior and junior high gyms. The Knights varsity team will play Saturday and the junior varsity will play Friday. There are 20 teams participating in the tournament which will start April 5 at 3 p.m., and April 6 at 9 a.m. Teams participating in the tournament on Fri- day will feature local talent including Coughlin, Valley West, Dallas, Pittston, Lake-Lehman'’s two jayvee teams, Blue Ridge, Mountain View, Forest City, and Crestwood. Saturday will feature teams from the Eastern half of the state including Central York, Western York, State College, Easton, Em- maus, Wyoming Area, North Pocono, Co-Calico, Quakertown and Lehman varsity. Many of these teams are in the state's top 10 rankings. In the 15 years since Baranowski formed the Lake-Lehman team, they have had 159 wins and onlyll losses; have been league champion 10 times, district champs eight times and made the state finals 11 times. After ending 1976 with a 3-6 record, the Knights finished 9-0 in 1977, and have gone undefeated in league play nine times since them. Baranowski's assistant coach is his wife, Jeris Baranowski. Sports roundup Lady Knights score 7-2 win over O'Reilly The Lady Knights of Lake-Leh- man won their second game in the Wyoming Valley Conference Mon- day by defeating Bishop O'Reilly girls 7-2 paced by Knight Sherri Riaubia who scored three goals in the third period. Both teams went scoreless until ‘Riaubia scored her first goal in the third off an assist by Robyn Smigielski. She scored her second and third unassisted. Alyson Davis scored on a direct kick. Heather Picchi scored for the Knights on an unassisted goal to put her team in front 5-1. Final goals were by Turner off an assist by Megan Lukasavage and Mela- nie Raspen unassisted.
