As the students sewed a ribbon to wear, they learned that the custom is quite old. Yellow ribbons were worn by families wishing for the safe return of soldiers during the Civil War, and later during the Indian uprisings. More recently the wife of an American held hostage in Iran started a campaign of tying yellow ribbons around trees to signify American concern for the captives. Several students who made ribbons are featured from left, Jason Nutche, Jacqui Prothero, Valerie Taylor, Kevin Williams, Joseph Dreier, Mrs. Lavada Riggins, Project Coordinator; Marina Knappman, Lisa Gurdin, Brian Pizzano and Michael Miller.
