The Dallas Post Dallas, PA Wednesday, October 17, 1990 11 SPORTS Back Mountain Soccer League playoffs continue The Back Mountain Soccer League continued its double elimi- nation play off action in the U-12 and U-10 division. AZTECS TOP SOCKERS 4-1 The Aztecs chalked up another win as they topped the Sockers 4- 1 in U-12 play. Jeff Fanek scored twice along with a goal each from John McLaughlin and Ed Pickam. Josh Butler and keeper Dave Wil- liams led the Aztec defense. : JASON PERLIS SCORES 4 GOALS FOR KICKS In another 4-1 game the Kicks defeated the Sounders, with Jason Perlis scoring all 4 goals for the Kicks. Center fullback Ryan Mahle layed his position very effectively, K Mike Brown had saves in goal. savid Breymeier managed to score for the Sounders on an assist from Kevin Pizzano. Keeper Nicole Bouthot and Marisa Michaels played tough defense. PACERS TOP WINGS It was 4-1 again as Josh Dukas with a hat trick and Brad Dieffen- bacher with another score led the Deer limits may be increased this season Increased deer population and a large increase in deer damage rienced by farmers has caused e Pennsylvania Game Commis- sion to approve the sale ofa second bonus tag for antlerless (doe) deer for the 1990-1991 ‘seasons. If a county's allocation of regu- lar antlerless licenses and first bonus tags has not been sold prior to November 13, a hunter may buy a second bonus tag in that county. Properly licensed hunters will be permitted to shoot up to three deer. At least two of the deer must be antlerless and if the hunter does not shoot a buck and is prop- erly licensed, he could shoot three antlerless deer. i The Game Commission also gave (uthority to the agency executive director to extend the anlterless season when and where neces- sary, especially on farms that have had extensive crop damage. Farms where extended antler- ® css deer hunting is allowed will be posted by the farmers. The Game Commission will have highly vis- ible indicating crop damaged farms printed and distribute them. A list of such farms will be posted by regional offices and when neces- sary the Game Commission will help direct hunters who qualify to the farm locations. Deer are a valuable natural resource which can be maintained indefinately where they have suit- able habitat. They are a valuable public asset in many areas be- cause they attract hunters and wildlife watchers which can mean significant revenues, especially in many rural communities. Management of the deer herd geans controlling the size of the d deer population and this control can only be done by harvesting female deer. This is accomplished in Pennsylvania by having regu- lated antlerless deer seasons. There are restrictions on the number of deer a hunter may shoot, number of licenses issued in a given county, and the length and number of seasons used to sontrol the harvest as well as the ability of the forest habitat to support the size of the deer herd during the winter. Pacers to a win over the Wings. Sweeper Chuck Unice had a strong defensive game, and Anu Das and Shaun Norconk shared the goal- keeper duties. The only Wing goal was contributed by Pat Rosenthal on an assist from Mark Steele. Steele, John Berezich, and Dan Nichols put out strong efforts for the Wing defense. CHIEFS SHUT OUT LANCERS In the final U-12 game, the Chiefs ‘rolled over the Lancers 8-0. Scor- ing for the Chiefs were Erin Stair with a hat trick, Roy Holcomb with 2, and Chuch Felinger, Liz Keating, and Justin Kerr with a goal a piece. Fullbacks Sarah Podehl, Bryan Bachman, and Andy Davis kept a tight defense. Chief keeper Joe Tarity had 3 saves, while Mark Kaschenbach stopped 15 for the Lancers. STOMPERS WIN 5-0 In the U-10 division the Stom- pers shut out their opponents by a score of 5-0. Jennifer Germick led the scoring with a hat trick, with Laura Loeffler and Tim Pacewicz each adding a goal. Center half- back Mark Hayden stood out in defense as keeper Matt Sayman had 5 saves. BLIZZARD COMES BACK FOR 3-2 WIN The Blizzard came from behind on two goals in the 3rd and 4th quarters from Jordon Mosman to beat the Thunder 3-2. The first Blizzard score came from Robyn Considine in the first quarter, and then Bruce Kunkle hit for two in the 2nd quarter to put the Thun- der ahead 2-1 at the half. Mike Faneck, Chris Banks, and Chris Rogers led the Blizzard defense for the Thunder. Keepers Jesse Sto- larick and Matt Hoover combined for 7 saves for the winners, while Scott Bent stopped 10 for the Thunder. LIGHTNIN EDGES OUT AVALANCHE In another close game the Light- nin edged the Avalanche 2-1. Russ Eyet had both Lightnin goals with good defensive backup form full- backs Matt Eyet, Jared Hartesis, and Ken Weaver. Brock Siegel allowed only one score in goal. Rebecca Sorber plays at Mansfield Rebecca Sorber is a member of the 1990 Mansfield University Women's Field Hockey team. The freshmen from Dallas, Pa. is a forward for the lady Mountain- eers. She is a graduate of Lake- Lehman High School. Mansfield University is a mem- ber of the Pennsylvania State Ath- . letic Conference, the largest Divi- sion II conference in the nation.
