COMMUNITY Penn State art series begins this week Penn State Wilkes-Barre's Cul- tural and Performing Art Series opens on September 13 at 7:30 p.m. with William Graham per- forming “Cole Porter: One ofa Kind" at the Hayfield House Community Center. The Cultural and Performing Arts Series has also scheduled these events for the autumn: “Eliza- beth at 33,” on October 18; Jon- athon Gilley’'s Second Vision on October 23; and the Zagst-Feldman Duo on November 14. Many of the performances are supported by a grant from the Pennsylvania Council on the Arts. The public is cordially invited to all of the programs. There is no ad- mission charge. ” Musical genius and interna- MacDonald Gallery lists fall exhibitions ~~ The MacDonald Art Gallery at College Misericordia will open its fall 1990 season with a one woman exhibition by Rosalyn Richards, through September 30. The exhi- bition is being held in conjunction with the Center Gallery of Buck- nell University and The Anita Shapolsky Art Gallery in Soho, NY. Ms. Richard's exhibition is accom- panied with a full color catalogue and has been very well received thus far. Her work currently is featuring paper and canvas pieces which vary in size from average to monumental. For the exhibition at the MacDonald Art Gallery, Ms. Richards has chosen two impres- sive larger works with a variety of average and smaller pieces. Richards earned her BFA from Rhode Island School of Design and ~ MFA from Yale. The fall semester's major exhi- bition, October 7 through Novem- ber 4, including the weekend of Misericordia’s first annual Home- tional playboy, Cole Porter electri- fied Broadway and motion picture audiences with compositions he wrote for such classic musicals as “Kiss Me, Kate,” “Gay Divorcee,” “High Society,” and “Can Can.” William Graham portrays Cole Porter as an active composer dur- ing the autumn of 1954 when he was completing the score for his last Broadway Show “Silk Stock- ings.” Graham relates to the audi- ence many of the interesting and often unusual circumstances sur- rounding the production of Por- ter's shows and the writing of the songs. William Graham, former head ofthe music department at Barstow College, has a varied musical back- ground. He has studied classical coming, will feature the expressive works of the internationally-re- nowned New York artist, Caryl Picker. Ms. Picker’s bronze sculp- ture and jewelry exhibit entitled, “Texture and Open Spaces” adds new dimension to the history of the Art Gallery The Holiday craft show returns November 11-18, with fine arts piano and has played jazz piano in several combos in Southern Cali- fornia. Graham was a backup singer on the “Bob Hope Show” during the golden age of radio. The script and musical arrange- ments for “Cole Porter: One of a Kind" have been written by Dr. Graham. The Cole Porter Founda- tion has given the script its ap- proval and authorization. “I have enjoyed researching the life of Cole Porter,” said Graham. “He was quite a character and his personality made it easy to write a script which is entertaining as well as enlightening. Back Mountain Kiwanis schedule various activities The Back Mountain Kiwanis Club is sponsoring a Fall Foliage Excursion Trip from Steam Town, Scranton, on Saturday, Oct. 20.
