8 The Dallas Post Dallas, PA Wednesday, June 27, 1990 PEOPLE MARK CHAPPELL Mark Blaine Chappell achieves Eagle Scout status The highest award in Boy Scout- ing was presented June 3 to Mark Blaine Chappell, son of Mr. and Mrs. Walter R. Chappell, 57 Huntsville Rd., Dallas. He is the grandson of Mr. and Mrs. Bernard B. Hamed, Camptown and Mrs. Louise Chappell, Goose Creek, South Carolina and the late Ray- mond W. Chappell of Shavertown. A member of Troop 281, Dallas United Methodist Church, Mark was honored at a ceremony and reception at Trinity United Presby- terian Church, Dallas. John Achuff, Assistant Scoutmaster, Troop 281, was Master of Ceremo- nies. Invocation was by Rev. Anita J. Ambrose, Executive Director, Wyoming Valley Council of Churches. Scoutmaster Charles Wasserott, IV, presented the Eagle award to Mark's parents who pre- sented it to him. The following charges were given: Rev. Andrew Pillarella, Pas- tor Emeritus, Trinity United Pres- byterian Church, gave the charge from the church; Mr. Gary Math- ers, shop instructor, Dallas Senior High School, charge from the school; Senator Charles D. Lemmond Jr., the charge from the community and Mr. Bruce Davies, Unit Commissioner, Troop 281, the charge from Scouting. Mr. Donald Miller presented the NESA Eagle Challenge. Mark received congratulations from President and Mrs. George Bush, Governor Robert Casey and Congressman Paul Kanjorski. He received a citation from Represen- tative Scott Dietterick, and a Good Citizenship Citation from the Dal- las American Legion. A certificate of Commendation from Mayor Namey and the citizens of Wilkes- Barre, and a Certificate of Con- gratulations from the Pennsylva- nia Senate presented by Senator Charles D. Lemmond Jr. He was also presented a 10 year member- ship in the National Eagle Associa- tion by a friend James Snyder. Two special songs were sung during the ceremony. “Wings of an Eagle”, was sung by a special friend, Mrs. Catherine Bolinski and a surprise song sung by America’s P.R.I.D.E. especially for Mark who is a mem- ber of the PRIDE GROUP. Mark presented his mother with a mother Eagle pin and his father with an Eagle tie tac. He presented his grandmothers with a rose with an Eagle pin attached. His grand- father was unable to attend but Mark presented his grandmother a package to be given to his grand- father. He gave a plaque to Terri Cannavale, and Mrs. Catherine Bolinski. His parents presented him the Eagle Scout neckerchief and slide. Mark joined Cub Pack 281, Dallas United Methodist Church in 1980. He earned many awards and the Arrow of Light, becoming a Boy Scout in 1983. He has held various positions with the troop, currently he is Junior Assistant Scoutmaster. Mark has earned 27 merit badges, The God & Church and God & Life awards. He has com- pleted the Gettysburg Trail, Na- tional Capitol Lincoln Trail, and the Colonial Annapolis Historical Trail. He was a member of 1988 Philmont High Adventure Trip and the 1989 National Jamboree con- tingent. During the return trip, he was one of four chosen from the contingent to lay their wreath at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, National Cemetery, Arlington, Vir- ginia. He is a Brotherhood member and Treasurer of Acahela Lodge 223, Order of Arrow and a member of Explorer Post 333 (America’s P.RID.E.). His Eagle project was the resto- ration of the 5 mile “Deer Trail” at Frances Slocum State Park. As- sisting Mark were 17 Boy Scouts and 5 adults with a total of 150 man hours. Mark is a graduating senior, Class of 1990, Dallas Senior High School. This summer Mark will continue to participate with Troop 281 on the Valley Forge Trail. Dodson has been active in emergency services for 25 years.
