McCarthy winner of radio "Spectacular" promotion Radio Station WEMR, AM 1460 recently ran a “Spring Spectacu- lar” promotion, with the Grand Prize winner winning an all ex- pense paid trip for two, to Nash- ville. Five semi finalists were drawn daily, from each participating sponsor's registration box, with the Grand Prize drawn, during a live broadcast at the IGA, in Tunkhan- nock, on May 26. The lucky winner was Linda McCarthy of Tunkhannock. Linda and her husband, Phillip, left on June 3 from Avoca Airport to enjoy a week at the Hilton Suites in Brentwood. The McCarthy's toured all Nashville events in a 1990 Cadillac Seville, which was at their disposal all week. Upon their arrival at the Hilton, some 26 winners and their spouses, from all over the U.S. were treated to a welcome reception, where they became acquainted. Mrs. Mc- Carthy reports that each day, the group met at J.D. Haas Enter- prises offices, where they were treated to mini concerts, by popu- lar Nashville artists. Five different country stars were on hand daily, to visit and sign autographs, as well. The winners group attended fanfare, which is held at the state fairgrounds, annuallyand attended by some 40,000 people each day. Recording stars set up booths where fans wait in long lines to chat, pose for photographs and get signatures of Nashville's favorites. Linda, as well as the others, re- ceived back stage passes and pre- ferred seats to the fanfare concert on Thursday evening. : When not touring country music stars and festivities, the group enjoyed the luxuries of their hotel suite and swimming pool. Linda reports the weather was perfect all week, with absolutely no rain and 90 degree sunshine. Some of the artists Linda met included J.D. Hart, Doug Stone, Stella Parton, Glen Campbell, Highway 101, and the highlight for Linda was Lionel Cartright, who appeared at her hotel. When asked what she thought of the trip, Linda said, “You just wouldn't believe it! One week just " wasn't long enough. I hope WEMR ; radio runs this promotion again®* next year, so another lucky person may get the chance to go!” The McCarthy's arrived home on June 9 0] it You social announcements are welcome at IRENE The Dallas Post.
