Gauntlett will report to Hampden-Sydney in late August. Brett Gauntlett, senior bas- ketball standout at Dallas High School has decided to attend Hampden-Sydney College in Virginia beginning in the fall of this year, according to an an- nouncement released recently by Hampden-Sydney basketball coach Tony Shaver. Averaging more than 13 points per game last year, Gauntlett received more than 35 recruiting letters from col- leges and universities around the country including letters of interest from school’s repre- senting Divisions I, II and III of the National Collegiate Athletic Association. After being actively recruited by several schools including Hampden-Sydney, Susquehanna University, Ran- dolph-Macon College, Roanoke College, Bridgewater College and Springhill College, Gauntlett, who currently holds down a 3.4 grade point average, made the decision to attend Hampden-Sydney fol- lowing his second visit to the campus last month. “After visiting all the schools and spending time with each of the basketball coaches, I de- cided that Hampden-Sydney would provide me with well- rounded academic and athletic programs,” said the 17-year- old Gauntlett. “I was impressed with the coaches and look for- ward to going away to college,” he said. In making the announce- ment of Gauntlett's selection, Gauntlett selects Hampden-Sydney Coach Shaver said, “We are very excited that Brett has decided to join us here at Hampden- Sydney. He is a proven player with two most attractive quali- ties: "First, his best days are ahead of him as a basketball player since he has not yet reached his full potential, and secondly, Brett has a real en- joyment for the game of basket- ball - not to to mention his excellent shooting ability - especially from the perimeter,” he said. Gauntlett, who also played | baseball while at Dallas High School, plans on majoring in Business. Brett is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas R.
