Dallas’ Laura Poynton pitched a perfect game Monday to take an 8-0 shutout from Pittston Area. It was Poynton'’s first perfect game on the mound as she served notice she is back on top of the control she had shown for the past three years. “Iwas really happy and surprised because as you know I haven't been pitching the greatest. I really thank Brenda for making the last out when Pittston’s Bonnie Lee hit a long ball into right field. I knew I had a no- hit game going into the final inning, but I didn’t realize it was perfect.” Poynton faced the minimum 21 batters as the Patriettes went down in 1-2-3 order in each inning. Dallas Coach Jay Pope said he was thrilled with Laura's performance. “She took control with her first pitch and stayed on top the entire game,” Pope said. The Mountaineers also had power at the plate, with catcher Melanie Langdon knocking out three hits, a single, double and triple and driving in two runs. Poynton also had two hits and Stephanie Andrasko drove out a three-base hit. First baseman Denise Wysocki made several key plays at first base. ' “It was a lot of fun today,” Laura said. “I was more relaxed than I have been.” “The girls played well today,” Pope said, “But Laura was super. She's a great athlete and deserves the recognition.” The win moved Dallas to 5-1 tied for first with Wyoming Area and Bishop Hoban in the North Division.
