The Dallas Post Dallas, PA Wednesday, March 28, 1990 11 SPORTS By CHARLOT M. DENMON Staff Writer “We're a young team and this will probably be a rebuilding year,” Lake-Lehman girls soft- ball coach Rose Ragnacci said last week. “We lost seven of our starters through graduation. We have only Wendy Skibitsky, Jennifer Cross and Heather Ruger, the last two sophomores returning, who played last sea- son. Tracey Krupa, also a so- phomore, saw some playing time.” The Lady Knights have only 13 students out for the team. Like other schools, they have been hard hit by the new girls soccer team. “We will rely on our pitching and a strong defense this year,” Ragnacci said. “Ifthe team comes together early, we will be up near the top. Meyers and Bishop 1990 LADY KNIGHTS TEAM - Members of the Lady Knights 1990 softball team take time out for a photo before getting ready for practice. Seated, from left, are Jennifer Smith, Jennifer Cook, Leann Rodgers; standing, Coach Ragnacci, Karen Zier, Karen Stefanowicz, Jennifer Cross, Wendy Skib- itsky, Heather Ruger, Nicole Hall and Cherub Honeywell. Absent from photo, Noell Brooks, Tracey Krupa, Molly Martin, Tracey Halowich. (Photo by C.M. Denmon) Prospects look good for Lady Knights beat in Division AA. The Mo- hawks have good pitching and O'Reilly has everybody back. Seton Catholic is also to be reck- oned with. “Northwest, Bishop Hafey and GAR are not strong and Wyo- ming Seminary has been hurt by the soccer program.” Last season Jennifer Cross played first base, but this sea- son Coach Ragnacci plasn to have her start at second or third. Tracey Krupa will be behind the plate, Karen Zier will play either second or third, whichever posi- tion Cross doesn't play. Jen Smith is doing a good job at first base and Skibitsky will be at shortstop, the same position she played last season. Heather Ruger will play the outfield as she did last year, while vying for the other outfield positions will be senior Brenda Cook, sophomores Molly Martin and freshman Noell Brooks and Cherub Honeywell. Honeywell will also be backup pitcher to Karen Stefanowicz, who did a good job for the junior high team last year. “Leeann Rodgers will also be trying for the outfield,” Ragnacci said, “And Tracey Halowich will fill in at second when needed. Stefanowicz, like most of today’s high school pitchers, throws a fast ball and led the junior high squad to the title last season. "Our two freshman, Brooks and Honeywell are power hitters and Skibitsky excels at bunting and has a lot of speed on the bases. The rest of the girls have average speed on the bases but I expect them to develop as the season progresses,” Ragnacci concluded. Ragnacci has a new assistant this year, Kim Fey, who played at Bloomsburg and was also an outstanding player for Lake- Lehman.
