SCHOOL 'Life-Pact’ presented at Lake-Lehman “Peer Helpers” recently presented a program, Life-Pact, to the student body at Lake-Lehman High School as an ongoing project to serve others in the school community. Life-Pact is an anti suicide program designed to have the problem discussed with a friend before any threats on life are made. “Peer Helpers” consists of a small group of students who are thought to be friendly, trustworthy and caring. The group is selected by the student body, teachers, counselors and administrators and was introduced to the student body by the Life Pact organizer, Becky James. Some training sessions during the past two years include: weekend retreats, Luzerne County Community College Youth Forum, Ship- pensburg State Peer Helper conference, Pennsylvania Awareness Conference at Penn State University, and Clearbrook Drug & Alcohol conference. The group also meets monthly to listen to counselors to improve knowledge and skills and to help each other with peer problems. : Activities include: career counseling, aiding students with scheduling and personal problems, lecturing in classrooms on drug and alcohol, presenting Red Ribbon Day-Drug Awareness Program, aiding students who are seeing The Bridge, and visiting the elderly in nursing homes. Peer Helpers are Molly White, Chris Tawes, Mike Doerfler, Chuck Finn, Karen Stefanowicz, Jeffrey Hynick, Denise Thompson, Brian Hampel, Billy Vigorito, Becky James, Gretchen Yeagor, Heather Ruger, Dyan Dymond, Rich Davis. Advisor is Mrs. Florence Finn. Pictured is Becky James,. Life Pact organizer. PoLo § RALPH LAUREN / Distinctive clothing for men and boys.
