* The Dallas Post SCHOOL i ; : no Dallas, PA Wednesday, September 27,1989 ~~ 9 | Matthew Shea will attend British school Matthew Shea, son of Atty. and Mrs. Charles Shea, lll, of Dallas, will spend the first tri-mester of his junior year as a student of the Kingswood School in Bath, England. In turn, Alistair McNeal of the Isle of Wight, England, will be attending Wyoming Seminary College Preparatory School during the fall term. This student exchange is made possible through the Kingswood Scholarship. In the fall of 1985, Laurie Campbell, the Headmaster of the Kingswood School at the time, was a guest of Wyoming Seminary. The Kingswood School was founded by John Wesley in 1749 and is the mother institution for more than 135 schools, colleges, universities, and theological schools related to the United Methodist Church in the United States. During the 1985 visit of Mr. Campbell, an agreement was reached for an annual exchange of students. Students from Wyoming Seminary who have participated in the past are Joanna Garbush, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Anthony Garbush, Shavertown; Steven Sours, son of Dr. and Mrs. Richard Sours, King- ston; and Juliana Koo, daughter of Dr. and Mrs. Wook Hun Koo of Dallas. Lake-Lehman band wins at Berwick The Lake-Lehman High School Marching Band began its new season of field show competi- tions on a high note this past weekend in Berwick. They not only took first place in Group Il but won the best music specialty award. Under the direction of their new band director Mr. Edward Richards, Lehman plays a variety of music in its field show performances accented by a colorful array of new flags. The band is again led onto the field by drum major Molly White. Mrs. Maureen Richards is the assis- tant band director and band front co-ordinator. The continuation of the successful program, initi- ated five years ago, will feature six presentations for both parents and their children as per the following schedule: As noted in the schedule, the program will be offered at each ele- mentary school and will feature separate presentations and activi- ties for both the parents and the children. Activities for the children dur- ing these programs will include: a play/game time; a story time; an orientation to the school building and special purpose rooms, i.e. library, cafeteria, gym, health room; make and take/arts and crafts; safety in the home and neighbor- hood and orientation to busing, etc. The programs for parents in October, November, and Decem- ber will deal with reading and math readiness, and will focus on the concept of a partnership between parents and school, and the role of the parent as the child's first teacher.
