DENMON Staff Writer “Our kids did a great job against ~ Bishop Hoban Monday,” Coach Rich Gorgone said following his Knights 41-14 win over the Argents. “I was concerned going into the game because of the confusion going with an after-school game, the delay from Saturday and all ~ that goes with postponing a game. “I was also concerned about ‘Hoban's defense because they do a lot of different things trying to confuse you, but our kids did a nice job playing against them. Terry Martin played a great game and Ronny Parry is getting better with every game. He's developed into a ~ good runner. Sam Gorgone threw some nice passes especially in the clutches when they were all over our receivers. “I wanted to play a lot of our bench but Hoban kept their first string in the whole game sol had to play our first defense but we were ~ ' able to play our second offense kids.” “We play Tunkhannock this weekend and it will be a tough ‘game. Not only do we have a short week but the Tigers are a nice football team. We have our work cut out for us but our kids will give _ itall they can,” Gorgone concluded. The Knights got off to a quick start in Monday's game driving down the field for a touchdown in 8:44 of the first quarter. It was ~ Terry Martin who scored the first of his three touchdowns for the ~ Knights to celebrate his 17th birth- day. He ran up a total of 155 yards and his three scores to lead the The Knights scored their sec- F ond touchdown in the beginning 7 of the second quarter when Mike Strutko went over from 34 yards. On the following kickoff, the Knights recovered a Hoban fumble and Ron Lefkoski took the ball into the end zone but it was called back on an illegal blocking penalty. Martin wasn't to be denied the score and went up the middle to score at 5:59 left in the half. On the first play of the Knights next possession, Martin scored again going for a 33-yard touchdown to give the Knights a 27-0 lead. In the second half the Knights scored another touchdown when Matt Kukosky capped a 66-yard drive by the Knights by carrying the ball into the end zone from the one yard line. Kukosky scored another touchdown for the Knights ona 34-yard run to give the Knights their 41-14 win. Sam Gorgone kicked the extra points. Hoban's two touchdowns were scored by Ken Strish on a 12-yard pass to Shawn McHale and by Kevin Quaglia on a 30-yard run. This weekend the Knights play Tunkhannock. “They're a good football team and we have a short week. It's going to be tough,” Gor- gone said. Knights to a 41-14 win. Gorgone took Martin out in the second half to give him a rest. The Knights did a good job of clearing the way for Martin. “If Martin gets 100 percent healthy, he will be one of the best backs in the conference,” Gorgone said. DENMON Staff Writer DALLAS GOLFERS WIN Dallas Mountaineers defeated Hanover 180-193 in Monday's golf match at Irem Temple paced by Mike Prokopchak who took medalist honors with a three-over par. Mountaineers John McKeever, Jim Reynolds and Paul Deeble hit scores of 45,46 and 49. The win ran the Mountaineers record to 4-3. Mike Jamula led the Hawks with 46 over the nine hole course. DALLAS SOCCER WINS THIRD Dallas soccer team defeated Wyoming Area 4-1 to run their record to 3-0 in their division. The Mountaineers took a first quarter 1-0 lead on a goal made by Pat Morris off a penalty kick. In the third period the Mountaineers insured the game with three scores by Mark Parrish, Brian Miller and Matt Sleigholm. Parrish made his goal unassisted 3:17 into the second half, Miller scored off an assist by Butler and Sleigholm scored at 18:00 into the half off an assist by Jeff Tinner. MOUNT RUNNERS WIN TWO The Dallas runners rebounded from their previous losses to defeat Bishop Hoban and Wyoming Seminary by 16-43 scores to run their record to 3-3. They took the four top places led by Steve Oliver in 17:56, followed by Brian Smith, Matt Samuel and Chris Rogers. Chuck Clothier finished seventh, and Bill Jones eighth. Gretchen Schuler finished first among all the girls with a time 20:28 despite the girls losing 20-38 to Bishop Hoban. Lynn Baluh came in seventh, Kerri Burke, ninth and Cindy Delinsky 10th. KNIGHT HARRIERS TOP O'REILLY The Black Knights took Bishop O'Reilly 16-41 Monday with Charles Jacoby leading everyone with a time of 18:01. Teammate LEHMAN KICKERS WIN TIGHT ONE The Black Knights defeated Valley West 2-1 in'the second overtime when Brian Kelly scored unassisted with only 3:26 remaining in the overtime to give the Knights the win. The Spartans took an early lead in the first half on Jay Wideman's goal off an assist from Brian Rifkin but the Knights tied the score when Eric Stogoski hit one into the net off an assist by Mike Fritzen.
