She explained the goals of the ~ Back Mountain Citizens Council and made a plea for greater citizen participation. The following are the committees on which citizens can assist: Water, Community Relations, Solid Waste, Planning & Zoning, Transportation, Open Space & Recreation, Communica- tions; and Municipal Services. Shown in the photo are, Ron Mosca, » Water commission offers conservation tips The drought watch in effect for much of the Northeastern United States, including Pennsylvania and Luzerne County has prompted the Back Mountain Regional Water - Commission to urge all residents to conserve water. This recommen- dation is for everyone, whether they have individual wells, or are served by one of the local water companies. With community-wide cooperation it is hoped that more stringent water restrictions will not be necessary. Water conservation measures that can be put into practice with- out undue inconvenience are as follows: 1. Run only full loads in the washing machine or dishwasher. 2. Don’t run water while brush- ing teeth or shaving. 3. Keep a bottle of water in the refrigerator to use for cold drink- ing water, instead of running the water until it is cold. 4. When washing a car, use a bucket for soaping, and a hose nozzle that shuts ofl when not in use for rinsing. 5. Don’t wash down driveways, house or garage. Sweep with a broom instead. 6. Limit toilet flushing, Don't use the toilet as a waste basket. Put jugs of water into the toilet tank to reduce volume of water used in each flush. Two 2-liter soda bottles will fit. If any toilet needs to be replaced, buy a water saving model. Put food dye into the tank to see if the seat is leaking. 7. Repair all leaks, dripping faucets, or running toilets. 8. Take short showers instead of baths, or long showers. 9. Reuse water form rinsing dishes, or washing vegetables and fruit to water plants. Kingston Township Police Chief Paul M. Sabol has announced that increased police patrols will be out in force on ail roadways in the township. Particular emphasis will be placed on Route 309 in an effort to control speeding. Police Officers Kingston Township steps up police patrols will be utilizing VASCAR speed| detection devices and marked and unmarked patrol cars. The Chief urges all citizens to : obey the posted speed limits for their own safety.
